AstraZeneca's Newark Supply Site was established in 1971 and currently employs approximately 300 people. Over the course of these years, Newark has undergone many product portfolio changes since it first began as Stuart Pharmaceuticals through today as a manufacturer and packager of over 26 critical medicines used by patients around the world. The site provides a collaborative environment where everyone feels comfortable and able to be themselves and is at the core of AstraZeneca’s values.


The Learning & Development Lead is accountable for the overall learning management program at the Newark Supply Site. Through a focus on continuous improvement and process ownership, this role works across the site to ensure teams and individuals are building capabilities while developing to meet business needs. The learning management process owner will be accountable for setting the strategic direction, overall implementation, and management of the learning management processes and supporting the learning management system. This is accomplished by working with a network of site resources to ensure processes and data are compliant, effective, efficient and in alignment with Site, Regional, and Global strategic goals.


What you will do:


  • Act as backup to, and partner with, a Training Specialist in addressing requests, questions, and problems from users in managing the LMS, including creating and managing role frameworks and role assignments, assigning training, etc.
  • Maintain learning master data in the learning management system (LMS) to ensure database integrity & regulatory compliance.
  • Lead our new employee orientation and train the trainer sessions.
  • Develop and implement the site learning and development strategy.
  • Serve as site interface for inter-site, third party & regulatory agency (FDA, MHRA, Safety, Environment, etc.) questions and requests for data involving the learning process, learning effectiveness, learning management system and training documentation.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design, and a variety of learning methodologies.
  • Experience administering and working in a learning management system (LMS)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a learning & development, training or related field in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or related environment.
  • Ability to interpret strategic objectives (corporate, site, and functional area) and convert to practical work processes.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Good project management, problem-solving and decision-making skills.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Degree in a learning management/ training/team development/ organizational design field with a minimum of 5 years of direct management/supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in a team development/organizational design/training field (e.g., education, instructional design, instructional technology, human performance improvement (HPI), organizational design
  • Pharmaceutical Industry experience
  • Strong working knowledge of cGMP’s and Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations.
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience
  • Strong knowledge of Supply Chain principles and external relationship management
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a technical/production environment (ie. formulation / packing / laboratory / facilities, etc.)
