DESCRIPTION

The Lead Cook will be required to act as person in charge on the occasions when the Sous Chef or other managers are not available. Upholding all departmental sanitation and hygiene standards, preparing menu items in advance of serving and ordering for cafeteria, patient trayline, and special functions also required. Meets or exceeds industry and food safety standards for preparation, storage, and serving of food.

Checks food and kitchen supplies; ensures cooking utensils, pans, and other equipment is kept in a clean and sanitary condition. Works with and assigns other cooks to ensure all cleaning duties are completed, as needed. Ensures food is prepped and kitchen is cleaned and ready for the next shift. Assists with training of kitchen personnel and ensures cleaning, temperature, and production logs have been completed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with customers, staff, faculty and guests.
  • Demonstrated healthcare, hotel, restaurant and/or catering experience.
  • Skills in and knowledge of related food service functions such as safety and sanitation, production methods, and equipment maintenance.
  • Five (5) years of large-volume cooking experience.
  • Proven knowledge of and experience working with standardized recipes and production sheets.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous Lead/Supervisor experience.
  • Experience working in food service in a healthcare/hospital environment.
  • Knowledge of UCSD Health policies, procedures, and systems.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Ability to bend, squat, stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $41,301 - $54,559 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $19.78 - $26.13

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
