Job Description

Title: Laser Operator Reports to: Supervisor

Duties & Tasks

  • Regularly inspect in-process and finished parts to ensure quality goals and zero-defect criteria are met.
  • Strip and stack finished parts.
  • Operate 3-axis and/or fiber optic lasers.
  • Immediately inform leader or member of management of any machine malfunction, production quality or safety issues.
  • Perform machine setup in accordance with the Production Package; Have next job in queue ready to go, to reduce downtime.
  • Ensure accuracy of completed paperwork and computer entries.
  • Must be able to operate an overhead crane and load laser with heavy sheets (up to 75 pounds) of steel.
  • Perform repetitive bending, reaching and lifting actions involving material weighing in excess of 10 pounds and up to 100 pounds.
  • Set up and operate equipment to manufacture the highest quality parts, while maintaining production standards and safety precautions, using assigned equipment.
  • Ensure housekeeping duties are a priority. (5’s) area daily.
  • Perform quality checks using: calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and tape measures.
  • Operate assigned equipment according to the Production Package and ensure production standards and efficiencies are met.
  • Deburr parts.
  • Monitor production supplies and material and notify Dept. Leader of shortages prior to running out.
  • Place finished parts into designated containers. Ensure all material is clearly identified and labeled as instructed. All non-conforming product is immediately identified, recorded, quarantined and/or disposed of.


Additional Duties:

  • Operate overhead crane and hi-lo as required (license required).
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Set-up ability or aptitude.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Department Leader.
  • Press brake operation.

Technical Knowledge

  • Basic Math capability
  • Capable of reading and understanding Blue Prints
  • Familiarity with Windows OS, Keyboard, mouse and scanner.
  • Basic Reading capability

Minimum Requirements

  • One year experience performing Set Up functions in metal fabrication.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
