Job Description
Job Summary


The Kitchen Helper provides kitchen support for the daily functions of the congregate meal service.


Minimum Qualifications


A valid Food Handler’s permit is required by the first day of employment.


Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.


Essential Functions


  • Keeps the kitchen and equipment clean and presentable and ensure all cleaning schedules are followed as directed. Reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Provides good customer service to patrons, staff and members of the public.
  • Follows portion size guidelines, plating techniques and menu for service.
  • May serve as the point person in the kitchen to oversee the daily functions of the congregate meal service.
  • Follows all food safety procedures including, but not limited to, temperature logs, equipment cleaning, storage guidelines, glove use, hand washing, etc.
  • Assists with food preparation, cooking, proper food temperatures, and food presentation.
  • Completes and updates daily, weekly and monthly data forms.
  • Plates and serves food to lunch program participants.
  • Stores and handles kitchen cleaning chemicals appropriately.


Aging & Adult Services is now offering limited-time incentive awards to Sr. Center Kitchen Helpers who meet certain performance criteria. Earn up to an additional $1,200 every six months between now and November 30, 2024.


Working Conditions And Physical Requirements


Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, twist, crouch and be on feet for 3-5 hours at a time. Kitchens may be warm due to cooking. May be required to use a step ladder.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION


This position will work 20 hours or less per week.


Must be able to access transportation to perform some work assignments at various community locations within a reasonable time frame. Must have flexibility to work extra hours as needed.


TEMPORARY POSITIONS


An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
