This position is located in the Office of Information Systems (OIS), Department of Buildings (DOB). The OIS is responsible for supporting and maintaining the Information Technology (IT) applications and systems of the agency; and for providing guidance and technical support in development of technological strategies and solutions which facilitate the attainment of agency goals and objectives.
This position functions as Information Technology Specialist (Technical Project Manager), responsible for providing project and technical management consulting services for full systems life cycle developments for DOB applications. The work involves applying analytical processes to the planning, design and implementation of new and improved information systems to meet the business requirements of DOB customer organizations; and for planning, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and management of the systems environment in support of the DOB Office of Information Systems IT architecture, business needs and projects identified by the OIS and DOB management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Installs, configures and maintains the rating systems environment including systems servers and operating systems software on which application programs run. Monitors and fine tunes performance of the systems environments; and evaluates new systems engineering technologies and their effect on the operating environment. Ensures that information security Information assurance policies, principles, and practices are an Integral element of the operating environment.
Prepares analysis of various alternative approaches to LAN/WAN operating systems and assesses new system design methodologies to improve application software quality, and information technology infrastructure. Prepares systems documentation, such as programming specifications, for implementation by computer programmers. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems throughout the entire systems development life cycle, addressing problems such as systems capacity and performance problems.
Qualifications and Education
Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information.

Specialized Experience:
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
