While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report.

  • At Baruch College we believe that student success is everyone's responsibility** " The Assistant Database Administrator will be responsible for advanced technical work in various phases of database administration support; development activities (support the application development lifecycle, planning, design, development, implementation, data migration, quality assurance, data cleanup, and data administration) as well as database operations activities database administration, database security, assuring availability, server and database monitoring, and performance monitoring.


Reporting to the Chief and Director of Public Safety, the successful candidate is: + Responsible for assisting the Senior IT Associate/ID Center Manager with the maintenance and support of the AMAG system. + Develop a new ID verification program for all security entrances, write input program to integrate ID system with AMAG, account administration, programmer and user support, security, backup and data recovery. + Create a semester validation system to update registered students and to deactivate students who are not registered. + Create visitor management system. + Manage the verification system that will consist of ID holder information, recent turnstiles access, and ID card verification check-ins as well as administering newly registered students and user accounts. + Administering and maintaining of data such as the Access Control databases and resolved system performance issues on a case by case basis. + Create program to monitor swipe in access and number of swipe access check-ins and provide ID card swipe history reports as needed. Manages and provides status update on all work activities. + Monitor databases for performance and issues using monitoring tools. Provide support for migrations, updates, fixes and issues as needed. Provide technical assistance to functional areas on problems that may be database related. Identify and track issues, risks, and action items. + Provides Operations support for Database and Database Server administration support for critical production systems. + Perform Health Checks to review the performance of databases to identify and provide recommendations to enhance performance of databases. + Performs migration and upgrade of SQL Databases from legacy server\SQL Version to new server\SQL Version. + Performs data migration by designing programs to extract cleanse optimally, transform and load data between data sources as part of data migration and data validation support. + Deploy database schema changes to test and production environments. + Creates, maintains, and supports the logical and/or physical design of assigned databases by utilizing modeling tool to develop the data models. + Meet with developers and vendors to ascertain requirements and to provide consulting assistance to determine the appropriate database configurations. + Coordinates with vendors and service providers to resolve technical support issues. Determine time estimates and schedule for own work and resolve issues in a timely manner. + Request backup and restore from the backup team/BCTC. + Perform other duties as assigned **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**


  • An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  • A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions. This job has three levels.
  • Demonstrated English Language proficiency


To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required. **OTHER QUALIFICATIONS** Preferred Qualifications: + 3 or more years of experience with: MS SQL Server administration complex querying, store procedures, ETL, security and optimization + 3 or years of Experience with MS SQL Reporting and Analysis services on Microsoft Windows Server + 3 or more years of experience with Oracle Server administration complex querying, store procedures, ETL, security and optimization + 3 or more years of .NET web application development.
