Public Safety Officer
Title: Public Safety Officer

Organizational Relationship: Public Safety Supervisor
Job Purpose: Public Safety Officers foster and maintain a safe and secure environment for the Wagner College community. Public Safety Officers report directly to Supervisors and do not manage staff.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITY:
Essential Functions:
- Patrol all campus parking areas on a regular schedule and ensure compliance with accessibility parking plans. Ticket cars in parking areas that are blocking thoroughfares or fire zones and facilitate access to mechanical or towing services as needed.
- Complete daily log entries providing detailed information on all incidents.
- Maintain first aid proficiency requirements. Assist faculty, staff, students, and guests in basic first aid as needed. Contact emergency medical personnel when necessary.
- Perform foot and vehicle patrols throughout campus.
- Responsible for enforcing access control procedures.
- Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents and complete written reports of all incidents that occur on campus.
- Provide evening escort service and accessibility transports.
- Responsible for responding to all calls for assistance which include crimes in progress, fire alarms, medical and aided cases, and render aid as needed.
- Deliver excellent customer service to Wagner community members, visitors and guests.

QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
- Knowledge of security and law enforcement procedures and functions.
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Satisfactory completion of an approved security training course
Certifications/Licenses:
- NYS Security Guard License
- NYS Driver’s License
Desired Work Traits:
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic MS Word for report writing.
- Use of E-mails.
- Ability to prepare legible and accurate security reports.
Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
- Proficiency and compliance with radio communication procedure.
- Ability to communicate politely and effectively with the general public.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Employee must be a member of the Security Officers Union, Local One, and will be subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the union and Wagner College.
