The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, including exposure to current non-profit and development practices, technologies, and research and the opportunity to apply findings and insights to fundraising strategies. Furthermore, you will further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and project management.

Internship Overview:
- Time Commitment: 20 hours per week
- Internship Duration: 9/11/2023 – 12/8/2023
- Hybrid-remote with occasional in-office work. Must be located in the Dallas, TX area
- Salary: $23.00 per hour
Internship Outcomes:
Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:
- Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment.

- Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Responsibilities
Tasks could include things like the following:
- The intern will help support new ways diversity, equity, and inclusion can evolve. Including supporting leaders to think about analytics, storytelling, and strategy. Included in this work will be:
- Working with a variety of data sources, and trends strategy documents while providing input to other creative ways to think about the work.
- Reviewing past/present events to develop to help drive storytelling tools/resources.
- Opportunity at the end of the internship program, present what was learned/opportunities, etc. to the office of the health equity team.
- Work across the office of health equity to learn and help contrite to a team responsible for embedding health equity across the organization.
- The intern will also work on other data projects related to employee engagement, inclusive workplaces, health equity, and structural racism health.
- Helping develop reports and resources that can be utilized by internal/external partners.
- Working as part of an x-functional team that represents a variety of career stages/expertise.
Qualifications
- Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Background and interest in areas such as public health, social justice, health equity, health communication, sociology, psychology, marketing, or business are desired.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
- Demonstrated excellence in written communications skills, including writing on health, social issues, diversity/inclusion, or community impact.
- Reliable WiFi Connection
- Minimum availability of 20 hrs./wk., M-F between the hours of 8:30 am-5 pm.
- Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
- Required Equipment:
- Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
- Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in non-profit management or a related field.
- Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.
