This position is located in the Office of Analysis for South Asian Affairs, Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR/SA). INR/SA is responsible for the review and analysis of classified, unclassified, and open source materials concerning the political, economic, social, military, counter-terrorism, and foreign policy of the countries of the South Asian region, as well as U.S. international relationships and interests with these countries.

Serves as an Intelligence Research Specialist responsible for all-source intelligence analysis of South Asia’s foreign policy with a primary focus on Afghanistan.
Researches/analyzes trends affecting foreign policy and its approach to other countries/organizations in the areas of overseas activities, priorities, political/economic/strategic concerns, & cultural influences in those countries’ political systems.
Represents INR within the intelligence community (IC) & other interagency venues. Ensures INR views are represented in the coordination of IC analytic products: the Presidents Daily Brief, National Intelligence Council and interagency communities.
Prepares and delivers written/oral briefings on political and security developments in the specialty areas. Ensures that the intelligence needs of Department policymakers are clearly conveyed to appropriate collection agencies within the IC.
Applies expertise in using intelligence tradecraft tools and methods to coordinate and define the Department's intelligence requirements regarding Afghanistan.

Applicants must meet all the qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience identifying critical policy-relevant issues, based on all-source information, and relating to the leaders, institutions, decision dynamics, and policy trends in South Asian countries including Afghanistan.
- Experience preparing and delivering oral briefings to senior-level policy makers based on all-source intelligence relating to the leaders, institutions, decision dynamics, and policy trends in South Asian countries including Afghanistan.
There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.

- Knowledge of all-source intelligence analytic articles and assessments.
- Knowledge of South Asian countries including Afghanistan politics, economics, society, and foreign policy towards the region.
- Skill and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain liaison with officials throughout the intelligence and interagency communities.
