Job Description

This post is located in the Department of General Assembly and Conference Management, Office of Under-Secretary General, Business Analysis Section (DGACM/OUSG/BAS). The incumbent reports to an Information Systems Officer in the section.

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties for DGACM application Development and Operations (DevOps)
  • Provides technical support on relevant cloud services used in conference management operations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Provides guidance to new/junior staff.
  • Provides support on software development matters, including security, data integrity and recovery; assists with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various applications.
  • Serves as a team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems and services used by DGACM, works with senior IT staff on the definition and specification of requirements.
  • Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.
  • Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and deployment of new application systems releases, modules and functionalities, with a focus on DevOps functions.
  • Develops, tests, and deploys web-based application systems and programs using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools, to cloud hosted environments.
  • Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in DGACM and provides support as required.
  • Supports senior staff in the creation and maintenance of application software within web-based architectures; assists in the preparation of technical and user documentation, as well as in the production of training materials.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Job - Specific Qualification

Experience with AWS cloud technologies, knowledge or application of Scrum/Kanban methodologies, and knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of demonstrated experience in information systems & development, deployment, and configuration management is required.
Experience in cloud automation, continuous integration IT cloud automation and continuous integration is desirable.
Experience in building and testing automation using Selenium is desirable.
Experience with AWS cloud services or Azure cloud services is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
