Who We Are
The Greater Valley YMCA (GVYMCA or GVY) is a volunteer-led, nonprofit, community organization. The Y is committed to strengthening community by positively changing lives every day. At each of our branches, we concentrate our efforts on three areas: Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility. And we do so in a way that upholds the Y’s traditional family values of Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Honesty.
For over 100 years, the Y has made tangible differences in the communities of Allentown, Bethlehem, Catasauqua, Easton, Forks, Nazareth, those comprising the Slate Belt region and the Lehigh Valley as a whole. Founded as individual YMCAs as early as 1897, the following branches of the Greater Valley Y merged together between 2010 and 2015: the Nazareth YMCA, the Suburban North Family YMCA, the Family YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg & Vicinity and the Bethlehem YMCA. In 2014, the Forks YMCA Education Center was established. The Slate Belt branch was opened in 2015. In January 2017, the Allentown YMCA joined the Greater Valley YMCA.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a (Human Resources) HR Generalist to join our team and implement various human resources programs. As a HR Generalist you should have a broad knowledge of human resources functions, from hiring to onboarding and from employee compensation to evaluation. If you have a passion for HR, are familiar with labor law and look to kickstart your career in the field, the GVYMCA is a great place to start your Y story!
A Day in the Life as an HR Generalist
Your role as an HR Generalist will be far from one-dimensional. You’ll undertake a wide range of HR tasks, like organizing trainings, administering employee benefits and leaves and helping to craft HR policies. You will use Human Resources Information Systems to ensure all employee records are up-to-date and confidential. And you’ll also act as a main point of contact for employees’ queries on HR-related topics. The goal is to ensure the HR department’s operations will be running smoothly and effectively to deliver maximum value to the GVYMCA as a whole.
Responsibilities As An HR Generalist
  • Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics, like time to hire and employee turnover rates
  • Help manage the full-cycle recruiting process, including job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and offer letters
  • Undertake tasks around performance management
  • Ensure compliance with labor regulations
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned.
  • Organize quarterly and annual employee performance reviews
  • Assist in development and implementation of human resource policies
  • Promote HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace
  • Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits and organizing team building activities
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form; Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with all state and federal HR regulations
  • Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans
  • Conduct employee onboarding and orientation sessions help organize training & development initiatives

Expected Hours Per Week
  • Full-time exempt
  • 40.00 hours
Pay Range
  • $36,000 to $38,000 /year
Where You Would Be Working
  • Occasional travel to GVYMCA branches and other locations throughout the Lehigh Valle

Requirements
This Role Might Be For You If You Have:
  • Are able to effectively communicate and build relationships with Y staff, members, and vendors
  • A valid and current drivers license and record that meets YMCA standards
  • Good knowledge of employment/labor laws
  • Understanding of general human resources policies and procedures
  • Aptitude in problem-solving
  • Experience in a non-profit organization is not required but welcomed
  • The ability to travel to different Y Branch Locations in Allentown, Bethlehem, Catasauqua, Easton, Forks Twp., Nazareth and Pen Argyl
  • Experience as an HR Generalist is preferred
  • Desire to work as a team with a results driven approach
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • A commitment to equity and reducing disparities based on race, ethnicity, immigration status, sovereignty, gender, sexual orientation/gender identity, and socioeconomics.
  • HRIS and payroll systems will be a plus - We use Paylocity
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or relevant field is not required but welcomed; experience is preferred
  • Possess sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment skills, and a positive attitude
  • MS Office;
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required
  • Outstanding knowledge of:
  • Have good customer service skills, high ethical standards, an appropriate professional image, and a team player
  • Applicant Tracking systems will be a plus - We use Workable
Physical Prowess Not Required
  • You don’t need to be a world-class athlete, but you will have some light physical demands (i.e. spending hours listening and talking; working on the computer and phone; driving to appointments and events; lifting light pieces of equipment and materials; and occasionally working long days, nights or weekends)
