The New York Times is looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to partner with employees and leaders across some of our business departments. You will work directly with business-side senior leadership teams to assess organizational needs as the business continues to evolve and to set the talent strategy to address them. You will lead the design of programs to foster an inclusive culture in consideration of our core values and to support employee engagement, connection and career development. As an HRBP you will use your expertise across the full suite of human resources and organizational development specialties to provide strategic HR partnership and execution support.
This is an exciting opportunity to help a growing business and their team members succeed. You'll partner with the central HR team on strategy of hiring, total rewards, diversity, equity, inclusion, talent development, internal mobility and employee engagement. You will report to the Director, HR Business Partner.
Responsibilities:
  • Assess employee climate, tracking trends in employee behaviors and sentiment, and offering solutions to leaders
  • Be a trusted strategic advisor and leadership coach to team leaders and managers across levels, assisting them to build teams and enhance their leadership effectiveness
  • Develop and interpret relevant people metrics to provide insights that shape HR strategy and relevant recommendations
  • Provide guidance on organizational design, employee engagement, compensation, performance and talent development to both department leaders and to help shape central HR programs
  • Partner with business leaders and HR centers of excellence to shape department specific HR strategy by identifying and prioritizing HR needs to support department goals
  • Operate as a trusted and credible partner who anticipates needs, and recommends and delivers solutions
  • Support the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy of The Times
  • Support transformation efforts by drawing on best practices for leading change
  • Work with business leaders to develop succession/talent planning efforts that ensure the teams have the talent needed to accomplish their strategy
  • Provide daily support to department leaders, managers, employees providing coaching, management of performance cycles, and oversight of process/ HR administration
  • Partner with our Employee Relations, Talent Development, and Legal team to resolve employee relations issues, ensure regulatory compliance, and identify development needs for teams and individuals
  • Model our core values and behaviors in how you approach the work and others, while promoting a culture or regular feedback in consideration of our mission and values
  • Execute on necessary tactical and administrative responsibilities, such as directing communication to other partners, answering requests and inquiries from employees, assisting with HRIS transactions, etc
Basic Qualifications:
  • Ability to organize and track quantitative data, analyze and identify trends, and provide relevant recommendations based on data analysis
  • Familiarity with an HRIS, like Workday
  • Broad expertise in organizational behavior, change management, talent management, policy implementation, employee relations and performance management
  • Ability to build partner, gain the trust and support of peers and clients and work across all levels in the organization
  • Ability to lead effectively through change – can shift priorities easily, and is comfortable with ambiguity
  • Willingness to take unpopular stands when needed
  • 7+ years of experience in an HR Business Partner role working with and advising senior leaders
  • Ability to operate with creativity and empathy, applying new tactics to find solutions to daily questions
  • Experience with negotiation, conflict resolution, influencing and partner management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • You have managed people before, or have a strong understanding of what it takes to be a great people leader
  • Experience in media or tech and working with client groups in the creative, marketing or communications fields
The annual base pay range for this role is between $140,000.00 and $155,000.00.
