Job Description

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ is a 24-hour emergency, critical care, specialty, and general practice hospital all in one location. We pride ourselves on providing high quality, compassionate services for companion animals utilizing cutting-edge medicine. There are a total of three Red Bank locations, with this one being our largest. It is also currently the largest hospital in the NVA C-F network and one of the largest small companion animal hospitals in the world. Plus, we are still growing and will be moving into a 100,000+ sq ft facility in 2024!

This Hospital Director will report directly into to the NVA Specialty+ER Divisional Director of Operations and will partner very closely with the Medical Director.

Leadership

  • Consciously shapes a positive hospital culture based on trust and teamwork that caters to the needs of our clients and referring veterinarians.
  • Organize and conduct staff meetings. Meet regularly with managers to discuss, evaluate, and plan for the welfare of the practice. Attend corporate meetings.
  • Collaborating on the recruitment, interviewing, contract negotiation, and hiring doctors in conjunction with the Medical Director.
  • Exhibits a calming, humble and teachable attitude whilst having the ability to address decisive change through the hospital.
  • Directs leadership team in a collaborative fashion to facilitate resolution of issues and growth within the hospital.
  • Demonstrates a strategic orientation by translating a vision into actionable plans and activities and by managing operations effectively to achieve objectives.
  • Monitor employee competence and effectiveness through manager feedback and observation as well as staff performance and salary reviews including overseeing disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Directly oversees all operations and business activities and leads staff for all departments.
  • Passionate about providing resources, support, and supervision for the hospital staff and fostering an incredibly positive and forward moving culture
  • Responsible for overseeing the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of staff in conjunction with the Medical Director.
  • Responsible for working closely with the Medical Director to establish the best medical care while keeping the positive financial health of the hospital
  • Partners effectively and collaboratively with the Medical Director who is heavily involved in the overall management of the hospital as well as responsible for the overall level of medicine and high-quality patient care.

Strategic Orientation

  • Understand, participate and support planned marketing events and programs and ensure that the hospital staff utilizes marketing tools and materials and events and programs.
  • Develops in-depth understanding of local market and relationships with referring general practice veterinarians to understand their needs.
  • Identifies and executes short- and long-term plans for growth, including addition of new services, recruitment of doctors and other key team members, pricing strategy, space optimization, and acquisition of new equipment.

Financial Analysis & Planning

  • Responsible for accounting and finance processes within the hospital, as well as creation of an annual operating budget built to achieve overall revenue growth and profitability.
  • Review accounts receivable to confirm proper and timely processing.
  • Leads hospital financial activities, including monthly review of financial statements and appropriate corrective action in response to variances and trends.
  • Responsible for payroll processing on a biweekly basis
  • Owner of the P&L and responsible for meeting and exceeding expected financial results.
  • Applies continuous improvement principles to existing financial and operating processes with constant communication and feedback loop with doctors and hospital staff.


Business Operations

  • Understands lean principles and identifies and executes opportunities to improve processes and create efficiencies.
  • Inspirational and motivational leader who will drive results across all elements of the business. Sets goals and evaluates progress toward goals.
  • Ability to understand how to grow and develop De Novo locations as the market is able to bear expansion.
  • Partners effectively with NVA and technology providers to support and enhance hospital activities and the experience of clients and referring veterinarians.
  • Oversee client flow to ensure that clients and patients are seen and treated in a professional, timely and competent manner.
  • Oversee billing, calculations of any discounts, and other special accounts.
  • The HD will help each person on the team to develop a deep understanding of the mission, vision, and values and how individual work is aligned with business goals that contribute to and ultimately drive our success.
  • Directs growth activities to support business objectives and plans. Provides thought leadership, coaching, and mentoring to elevate hospital leadership team—and the entire team—to increased performance and productivity levels.
  • Responsible for administration and review of non-medical client complaints.


Requirements / Personal Attributes

  • Larger scale healthcare (veterinary or human) experience preferred, but not required.
  • 5+ years of progressive operational management experience with a record of success, including experience managing a P&L.
  • Ability to roll up your sleeves and get things done with enthusiastic participation, including flexible and irregular hours and role descriptions to support the hospital.
  • Self-motivated while also expert at motivating, coaching, and inspiring others.
  • MBA or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Multi-site leadership experience preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Learns quickly and can absorb new information rapidly.
