Hedge Fund - Credit/Rates Strategist Python Swe (Jj)

A small hedge fund is searching for a software developer to join a Strats team in Dallas, New York, or London. Developers are organized into small teams with independent prioritization and release schedules. A flat organizational structure allows for the opportunity to migrate across teams and broaden your business knowledge and experience.

The Strats group works closely and primarily with investment professionals in all our offices to help them interpret and act on market opportunities through the application of technology. The team is small, high-caliber, and well-positioned to make a significant and visible impact on the business. Key success factors are intellectual agility, solid judgment, and keen attention to detail. Exceptional communication skills and a sense of urgency are a must. The team shares a passion for operational excellence and automation of routine tasks and loves to learn about new technologies, techniques, and markets.

In addition to relevant experience, as part of the firm’s Development team the ideal candidate has deep understanding of many technologies and is able to effectively navigate the tradeoffs amongst buying, building, reusing, and a quick hack. The Strats group most frequently codes in Python and SQL, and leverages HBK’s technology stack, open source libraries like NumPy and Pandas, and modern deployment modalities like conda, Docker, k8s, and AWS.

Responsibilities

• Deliver solutions quickly, but working within a professional software engineering environment
• Facilitate communication between Front Office personnel and development/IT teams
• Be engaged and knowledgeable enough to suggest innovative solutions
• Work directly with trading desk professionals, leveraging technology to solve business problems in research, analysis, trading, and risk management
• Work effectively as part of the technology organization, communicating with the rest of the Strats team as well as the other Dev and IT teams and leveraging shared technology and infrastructure
• Show initiative in asking questions and picking up market knowledge
• Be familiar and comfortable using distributed source code management systems, work/bug tracking systems, and automated build/testing technology
• Work with a wide variety of financial and macroeconomic data in various formats and storage systems
• Understand and use appropriate software engineering techniques, including thoughtful design, unit testing, integration testing, and development
• Get user acceptance of solutions
• Support for Front Office
• Software Development
• Respond to support requests originating from Front Office personnel in a timely manner
• Debug Excel models, internal software, and financial data issues
• Work with trading desk personnel to understand their requirements

Required Skills

• Experience with rates or credit strongly preferred
• Knowledge of Python (strongly preferred), SQL, C++, VBA (all optional but helpful) and interest in gaining expertise in all of the above
• 3+ years of professional experience in a software engineering capacity
• Technical curiosity and eagerness to learn more about finance
• Undergraduate STEM degree
