About Alive & In Color
Developed as a multi-sector partnership between The BLK+Cross™, a whole-health equity consultancy, and local government agencies, Alive & In Color (AAIC) is a “For Us, By Us” community engagement and advocacy initiative targeting communities of color.
The Health Equity & Community Well-Being Storyteller will learn how to recognize and respond to mis/disinformation in social media, as well as how to leverage culture in health literacy communications to have conversations, and develop campaigns that change our understanding, beliefs, behaviors, and ultimately, promote collective well-being.
Through culture, content, conversation, and community-building, we work to build trust, access to care and resources, and agency needed to achieve better whole-health outcomes.
Our current work is focused on mitigating the impact of COVID-19 and COVID-19 Vaccine
Equity (Awareness, Access, Acceptance). The COVID-19 Health Equity & Community Well-Being Storyteller reports directly to the Executive Strategist and will work on all aspects of the Outreach Campaign.
Responsibilities
The Health Equity & Community Well-Being Storyteller will support the Health Communications Team in the development and management of collaborative relationships with trusted community stakeholders & the dissemination of culturally competent public health information, including information on COVID-19 testing, COVID-19 vaccination, and other healthcare and social services.
Digital Storytelling - Community Well-Being/Health Equity/Social Determinants of Health
Collaborate with the AAIC team to develop digital storytelling content that seeks to:
- RE-IMAGINE: (i) Foster agency within a group or community by elevating marginalized voices. (ii) Imagine new possibilities for better Black & Brown futures.
- INSPIRE: Inspire a specific action or changes in attitudes, beliefs, or behavior - for a healthier self, family, and/or community.
- IMPACT: (i) Shift the culture & the codes - Shift oppressive cultural narratives that influence popular opinion. (ii) Impact policy decisions that improve access to equitable information, care, resources, and opportunity.
- INFORM: Educate audiences on a specific social concern or issue, or broader past/present social conditions (and their drivers) of a place, group, institution, system, etc.
Message Development - Community Well-Being/Health Equity/Social Determinants of Health
Create multi-channel digital content that resonates with socially vulnerable communities of color (concentration on African-American & Hispanic audiences).
Newsletter & Campaign Notifications
Contribute to the creative development and production processes for the AAIC “Weekly Watch” newsletters to include, but not limited to, content development, copywriting, production, deployment, and reporting.
Social Media
Support the Social Media Manager in the development of content across multiple platforms including following current social media trends, memes, cultural movements, etc. and copy development.
Desired Qualifications
- Digital Software Platforms: CANVA, WordPress, Mailchimp; ZOOM/ Google Meet; Adobe Creative Cloud
- 1-3 years of professional or intern experience dealing with digital content creation, creative writing, and preferably health/equity/social impact communications
- Must be at least a junior in college; recent graduates preferred (bachelor’s degree, preferred)
- Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented
- Technical Skills: Project Management: Asana; File Management: Google Suite; Microsoft Office (WORD, Powerpoint, Excel)
- Experience in website content maintenance including content management
Commitment
- 10-15 hrs/week, 3 months with opportunity to extend
- Starting immediately. Will work remotely (EDT/CDT is preferred)
