HEAD OF HEALTH AND SAFETY
Position based in our NYC Corporate Office (NOT REMOTE)
KEY RESPONSABILITIES:
Key Responsibilities
To ensure that the internal occupational health and safety management system (SIGSST) is operational, always adapting it to current legislation, while ensuring it is implemented correctly and updated accordingly.
The Head of Health and Safety is part of a multidisciplinary team (safety, hygiene, ergonomics-psychosociology) and their main task is to control the effective implementation of the measures derived from the internal occupational health and safety management system, providing the necessary technical advice.
- Prepare the context analysis and results of needs and expectations.
- Identify the need to carry out risk assessments (general or specific in matters of safety, hygiene, ergonomics and psychosociology), supervise and validate the identification and evaluation work that may be carried out by an external prevention service and integrate the actions derived from these evaluations in the management system in general and in preventive planning.
- Define, prepare and update the contents of risks and control measures by role.
- Go to Labor Inspection and Social Security Administration summons, if necessary, giving support to the HR staff.
- Supervise periodically the investigation of incidents suffered by workers and in the case of serious accidents, collaborate in proposing corrective and preventive measures to avoid future repetition of the identified risk.
- Guarantee the registration of official communications and Administration requirements, proceedings and subpoenas of the Administration.
- Verify and, when necessary, propose in accordance with current legislation, preventive health and safety measures corresponding to risk situations and identified non-conformities.
- Request periodic accident statistics from the corresponding entities for subsequent predictive analysis.
- Advise and collaborate in the establishment of the objectives and the annual planning of preventive activities in collaboration with the person in charge of implementing the system, prioritizing actions in terms of health and safety, as appropriate in each case. Periodically control the execution and form of the content of the annual planning of preventive activities.
- Analyze conclusions of the results obtained in coordination with the external companies hired in health and safety matters.
- Report immediately to Management when there is a serious or imminent risk that could endanger the safety and health of employees or third-party companies.
- Coordinate all departments involved in the management of health and safety in order to guarantee the effective integration of all the company’s activities and in all the decisions taken.
- Issue notices, memos and consultations that are necessary in terms of health and safety, in accordance with current legislation and for the purposes of guaranteeing the effectiveness of the internal occupational health and safety management system.
- Verify the content and when necessary, update the workplace emergency plan as well as collaborate in its implementation and review of its effectiveness.
- Analyze relevant training needs, develop specific content and integrate the content within the organization's overall training plan.
- Prepare and present an annual review on health and safety activities to Directors.
- Define, prepare and update the contents on health and safety, procedures, standards and work instructions that must be complied with each job.
- Report periodically in the management reviews the completion of Safety Inspections.
To do this, coordinate and inform the corresponding Departments about :
- Preventive measures to be carried out, including those for the relocation of personnel due to incompatibility of their personal status with the conditions of the job.
- Safety Inspections.
- Preventive maintenance included in legislation.
- Annual planning of preventive activities.
- Internal emergency plan, evacuation plan and emergency drills.
- Procedures, rules and work instructions.
- Information to workers on risks and measures.
- Coordination with external companies.
- Propose and present the following elements for approval by the Management :
- The internal occupational Health and Safety Management System (HSMS), as well as its corresponding modifications and updates.
- The resources necessary for the implementation, development and maintenance of the HSMS.
- Collaborate with the health and safety department the communication with External Health and Safety Auditors.
- Analyze the results of internal and external system audits and propose the necessary modifications and updates to improve its effectiveness.
- Participate or where appropriate carry out internal audits regarding compliance by the company's Departments following the guidance contained in the internal occupational health and safety management system and where appropriate identify non- conformities and propose the associated corrective measures.
- Planning and preventive annual report
- Complete other tasks as necessary to support the overall department.
- Monitor and control compliance in matters of Coordination of Business Activities of the external companies and inform the corresponding departments regarding the procedure to follow.
- Advise and collaborate in the design of indicators for evaluation of the results derived from the application of the HSMS.
- Design and establish the optimal level of information and internal communication in order to promote information on health and safety, as well as the participation of all personnel in their field of work.
- Collaborate in the dissemination of the Health and Safety Policy.
- Analyze the degree of compliance of annual health and safety objectives established.
- Advise different departments and workers on health and safety in their field.
- Through the Regional/HR managers supervise and control the maintenance of records and files required by current legislation, as well as the system itself.
- Global functions and responsibilities in health and safety matters and those derived from HSMS.
- Prepare and update manuals, procedures, instructions and records corresponding to the HSMS.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in training, coaching and mentoring to develop health and safety knowledge and expertise
- Line Management experience including providing positive support, advice and encouragement in colleague’s development.
- BS or MS in environmental, health, safety or relevant scientific or engineering field.
- Experience of successfully managing projects
- Experience in completing health and safety management audits against ISO 45001 and implementing action plan to meet audit findings.
- 5+ years proven experience of working in a health and safety role at a similar level and bringing about culture change within an organization.
- Fluent in English (Spanish is a plus)
SKILLS AND ATTITUDES:
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all aspects of health, safety and risk management.
- Ability to interpret and provide authoritative advice on health and safety and risk management issues.
- High level of MsOffice (Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of workplace wellbeing initiatives and how they add value to an organization.
- Able to travel when needed.
- Ability to prioritize work to ensure tasks are completed within time constraints.
- A comprehensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation, management and standards.
Annual compensation range: $86,000 - $137,000 + discretionary annual bonus
