Job Description
Marathon Asset Management is a global credit investment manager with $20 billion in assets under


management. The Head of Portfolio Management will work closely with the origination and


underwriting teams to monitor and report on private credit loans. The private credit portfolio includes


assets originated by the Direct Lending team, which provides private equity with financing solutions for performing credits, and the Opportunistic Credit team, which specializes in providing bespoke capital solutions to companies in transition. The teams are seeking a Vice President or Director to join the New York team as the Head of Portfolio Management for the firm, with the following responsibilities


  • 10+ years of experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from top tier university.
  • Possess superb written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Create monthly dashboard report, summarizing key metrics for each borrower and for the portfolio.
  • Speak directly with borrowers and sponsors regularly to receive updates on borrowers’ performance.
  • Leveraged finance background required.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, commitment to excellence, and unquestionable integrity.
  • Create and manage monthly portfolio meeting with a focus on discussing any borrowers that are performing below our expectations.
  • Strong quantitative and financial modeling skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is coachable; willing to embrace a collaborative firm culture.
  • Build Portfolio Management team to manage the private credit transactions originated and closed by the Opportunistic and Direct Lending teams.
  • Work closely with the originations teams to create a smooth transition with sponsors, borrowers and administrative agents from closing to post-closing reporting.
  • Analytically strong and intellectually inquisitive.
  • Spread financial results of borrowers as they report and provide updates internally on financial reports.


The average salary for this role is $150,000-$200,000 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, location, skills, training, certifications and education, and in addition we will also consider internal equity and market data. We do not anticipate that candidates hired will begin at the top of the range however, from time to time, it may occur on a case by case basis. Our Structured Credit platform is well-established with a 20+ year track record of strong returns and is growing rapidly. We are currently seeking to add an Associate to our team. The Associate will join a closely collaborative, entrepreneurial team of seasoned investment professionals supported by Marathon’s global platform and will have direct access to senior investment professionals and portfolio managers.
  • Performing due diligence on prospective investment opportunities
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Outstanding work ethic, ability and desire to work in a dynamic and demanding environment
  • Staying current with capital markets conditions and relevant regulatory developments
  • Support asset and portfolio management functions and contribute to fundraising efforts through
  • Active monitoring and reporting of existing portfolio performance
  • Strong quantitative, cash flow modeling, and analytical skills
  • Interfacing directly with counterparties, including sellers, borrowers, and finance partners
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is coachable
  • Excel and PowerPoint proficiency a must. SQL and VBA experience a plus
  • Building and maintaining detailed cash flow models
  • Preparation of investment committee memorandums
  • Ability to monitor multiple markets at the same time
  • Support senior investment professionals in analyzing and executing private structured credit investments across a range of structures and specialty finance sectors
  • BA or BS degree with strong GPA
  • Participate in all stages of the investment and decision-making process, including idea generation, underwriting, modeling, execution, and asset management. Tasks will include
  • Example asset classes equipment finance, receivables finance, consumer loan products, non-agency first and second lien mortgages, small business loans
  • Preparation of performance, commentary, and marketing materials for current and prospective investors
  • Example structure types asset purchases, forward flow arrangements, senior finance facilities, second lien finance facilities, joint ventures
  • Critical thinking and strong attention to detail are a must
  • 2-6 years experience in the structured credit markets, preferably in an investment banking, trading or investing role
