Cross River is seeking a Head of Learning, Development and Talent to develop our educational processes and manage the overall function of learning and development. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in learning, organizational development and Talent Management.


The Head of L&D will make informed decisions regarding the Cross River learning program structure, courses and content, development programs, and career development initiatives. This includes assessing our current needs and developing highly engaging and effective programs to address them. We believe that diversity and inclusion are deeply connected with learning initiatives and as such, this role will include a unique perspective in guiding our activities. This position will also serve as an aid to developing training content and materials across all positions, teams and geographies.


This role will report directly to the Global Chief People Officer and will partner very closely with our People Experience Business Partners to ensure that talent development plans are correctly targeted and produce needed results to scale our business,

You are a seasoned L&D leader who has led teams in a high growth, global environment. You balance the academic side of learning with a high business acumen to drive results. You understand technical environments. You are motivated to help individuals realize their potential, create highly productive teams and build effective organizations. You understand how to align development offerings with company culture. You are able to measure the effectiveness of each offering and the overall program.


You are a pragmatic leader who can toggle between high level strategy and rolling up your sleeves to build a team and get work done. Your experience owning a learning budget has helped you develop a good sense of what you build in-house and what you buy off the shelf. You get excited about feedback loops and learning best practices and cultures and bring innovative ideas in those areas.


Your communication skills are world-class and can pivot your message to appeal to different audiences (from sales org to the deeply technical). You have a bias for on-the-job learning, yet you also use classroom instruction, video-based and online programs in compelling ways.

Your high business acumen drives your approach to development and makes you an effective, consultative partner to business leaders and across the People Team. You like data and persuade with data-driven communication.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as internal expert on latest trends in learning, new technologies, adult learning principles, and vendors in the marketplace.
  • Consult with business leaders to identify learning needs and manage the design, implementation, and delivery of a wide variety of solutions to support their needs.
  • Conduct focus groups and interviews with various levels of stakeholders to gather input for program design and enhancements.
  • Conduct thoughtful needs analyses and research to design scalable programs that build leadership capabilities using instructor-led, virtual and experiential modalities.
  • Coaches junior team members in development and delivery of talent and learning programs and materials to promote team member development.
  • Oversee the management and development of vendor relationships and seeks new opportunities and vendors to integrate tools and innovative platforms into existing programs and initiatives.
  • Fosters an innovative learning environment through coaching, mentoring and providing ongoing feedback.
  • Develop programs that aim to attract, measure, develop and manage an organization's talent pool. Help management evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's talent strategies. Support in aligning talent to training or development programs to ensure organizational goals are met.
  • Coordinate learning activities/events related to all leadership and employee development sessions.
  • Drive employee engagement and ability to attract and retain the best talent in the marketplace
  • Advise on career development for identified high-potential employees.
  • Manage the full development life-cycle from inception to delivery and measurement
  • Creates innovative learning solutions for all levels of employees.
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Evolve our roster of program offerings to build a culture of continuous learning.
  • Identify performance and talent barriers, both functional and geographical, and proposed solutions that consider best practice experience from the private sector.
  • Maintain L&D and industry knowledge by attending educational events and reviewing publications
  • Directs a team to design and project manage large-scale and complex talent and learning programs and initiatives and plays a key role in customizing existing resources or developing new solutions to meet targeted group development needs, including executive development and succession planning.
  • Partner with regional/functional leadership and People Operations Partners to identify talent needs at the individual and group level and design, develop, and/deploy solutions such as on-the-job experience, coaching, mentoring, assessment, and/or programs that best meet the need(s)
  • Deliver learning programming as necessary.
  • Liaise with relevant consultants and vendors.
  • Participate in the design of learning tools to maximize the development experience and support effective delivery of the programs.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of programs implemented through trend analysis of program outcomes, interviews with management and staff, etc. Promote the importance of learning & ROI to all stakeholders.
  • Design and development of e-learning using video-based programming.
  • Partner with other members of the people and business teams to design and develop initiatives to support our strategic priorities.
  • Oversee continuous research and analysis of current talent and learning techniques and platforms to develop strategies and solutions to complex talent and learning problems and concerns.

Qualifications That You Have

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience as a training facilitator having a track record of impactful and effective program delivery to business audiences
  • Naturally curious, creative and constantly looking for ways to optimize learning impact
  • Curriculum design certification a plus
  • Ability to confidently interact with senior management as well as create trusting working relationships and partnerships at all levels of the organization.
  • Values diversity and has experience building programs around diversity and inclusion
  • Proactive and hands-on self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Minimum 7 years progressive experience in designing, developing and delivering innovative programs within an organization or as a consultant
  • Training/facilitation certification a big plus
  • A positive attitude, strong results orientation and high degree of initiative and responsiveness.
  • Skilled in gathering, analyzing and using data to demonstrate learning effectiveness
  • Extraordinary business acumen and using that knowledge to develop highly relevant learning
  • Experience building and managing a team of learning professionals
