Job Description

  • Head of Innovation, Strategy and Operations
He/she will oversee and coordinate the execution of the global transversal strategy for the Immunology and Inflammation (I&I) Research Therapeutic Area to deliver an industry leading pipeline of innovative medicines.
Key Responsabilities
He/she in close collaboration with the TA head and leadership team executes the TA I&I research strategy. He/she will lead a team, including the Research I&I TA Home Office (operational and administrative support staff), a team of TA-based scientists responsible for supporting business development activities, and a team of project leaders.
TA I&I Research Strategy
  • Provide research view into yearly TAS (Therapeutic Area Strategy)
  • Key sparring partner for all TA partners in research, development and commercial
  • In close cooperation with Global TA I&I Research Head and leadership team, defines strategy in alignment with development and commercial to be among the top players in the Immunology and Inflammation field.
  • Provides benchmarks insights to navigate TA I&I strategy, achieving and exceeding peer companies
TA I&I Research Head of Project Leaders
  • Defines governance and heads the portfolio leaders meeting, covering all TA I&I projects
  • Ensure continuous learning and capability building of the worldwide project leader community with a focus on innovative thinking, building a strong network of highly skilled project leaders fostering a one team culture and best practices sharing.
  • Oversees the implementation and deployment of project leadership standards and methodologies and driving global project leaders and project teams to ensure business cases are set up realistically and fulfill standards of milestones transitions (M0 to M2). He/she is setting the strategic framework to increase the project leader quality and efficiency, through inhouse training and the deployment of the customized methodology
  • Acts as advisory function for project leaders to identify risks and define mitigations, overcome challenges, and offer problem solving with regards to methodology, execution or effective resourcing.
  • He/she will identify in constant exchange with the TA I&I LT peers the resource needs & skill sets required and is accountable to matching the project need with the best profile and help allocating the right resources to the prioritized projects in an agile way.
TA I&I Research Head of Operational Excellence (Home Office)
  • Plan and manage I&I TA meetings such as town hall, program review meeting, science innovation meeting, C2TV
  • Oversees the TA I&I operations globally (Budget, HC, infrastructure)
  • Supervise head count planning, tracking and reporting. Support I&I TA leadership team regarding hiring process.
  • Liaise with finance department for budget planning, allocation and management including approval flow: OPEX (e.g. travel), Capex, and external budget (e.g. for out-sourcing, SRAs)
  • Support planning and management of internal and external communication needs of the Head of the Inflammation & Immunology TA, such as site visits, external appearances, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Be the owner and organizer of TA I&I information via sharepoint/teams

  • TA I&I Business Development
    • Oversees all external opportunities for TA I&I
    • Be responsible for executing on external opportunities
    • Be the key contact for BD and external innovation
    • Key contact for iAwards, IMI and other Public/Private Partnerships
    People Management
    • Lead the Project Leader organization (10+ HC) across the globe with up to 4 direct reports
    • Lead the Home Office (4 FTE)
    • Lead a group of people supporting external opportunities as well as due diligence
    • Lead Operational Manager (2 FTEs) and BD key contact
    Profile required:
    • Ability to act as internal consultancy on complex issues, problem solving and has the ability to influence key stakeholders and/or decision makers to obtain support to promote innovative solutions or initiatives
    • Authentic, collaborative and mindful leader, diligent to earn respect from teams and stakeholders holding himself responsible and accountable for the overall success within his team and towards senior management and internal customers
    • Ability to think strategically, take a helicopter view and develop a compelling vision, but also be able to dive deep into problems when required – focus on impact and results
    • Strong problem solving and conflict management skill
    • Challenge current ways of working with a strong continuous improvement mindset. Raise issues and provide improvement recommendation without burning relationships
    • Ability to identify and develop talents to deliver project objective under pressure and in a highly challenging environment
    • Expert understanding of a Global R&D operating model and versality across multiple areas of the business to understand and anticipate different business needs.
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Capability to translate strategy into an operational roadmap with clear actions, and impactful deliverables
    • Very good program and project leadership skills with a strong track record of executional excellence: moving with fast lead-time from idea to action
    • Fluent in English (German and French a plus)
    • Strong personality and a track record of having managed large teams across complex scope and geographies/ globally
    • Ability to decide even under high pressure and inspire the team to keep up with the fast-changing environment during transition
    • More than 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D (experience in Immunology Research and/or business development activities a plus)
    • Ability to shape culture, motivate a group of people to work towards a common set of goals aligned with the overall Play to Win mind set
    • Ability to build effective teams through “alignment, execution and renewal” in mutual understanding of the targets in a complex and fast changing environment independently from reporting lines
    • Authentic and strong communicator with an ability to discuss on different levels within Sanofi and externally ensuring an impactful communication. Ability to facilitate and steer difficult conversations to sustainable outcomes and move to action.
