Job Description
This is a leadership role in a newly established Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) company affiliated with Great White Fleet. This position requires a self-motivated and results driven professional with excellent communication skills. Deep experience in the North America and Latin America NVOCC and Freight Forwarding industry is required to help us meet and surpass business expectations and contribute to our company’s rapid and sustainable growth.
Candidate will oversee and maintain an efficient and profitable NVOCC ocean transportation intermediary operation and services for GWF Logistics, Corp. Develop, implement, and continuously enhance ocean import/export operational procedures. Map company process flows and continuously review to identify efficiency gains. Maintains effective business relationships with foreign and domestic offices/agents and accounts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Enhance and grow business opportunities with existing and new customers
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including responsibility over the filing of rates with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) and all related government agencies.
  • Develop strategic relationships with steamship lines, ports, container freight stations, agents, and carriers to optimize customers’ end-to-end transportation solutions.
  • Develop and execute sales strategy including new products and services
  • Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and continuous development of best-in-class ocean import/export talent, to include maintaining training records.
  • Stay current with developments and changes in applicable laws, regulations, and other government requirements.
  • Meet or exceed established business and profit growth targets; responsible for sales and operational budgets, performance metrics and company KPIs
  • Create and maintain appropriate standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Close shipment files within the guidelines time frame to ensure they are billed, and all documents are included in the virtual folders.
  • Manage all pricing activities including negotiations with direct customers, ocean shipping lines, carriers, worldwide agents and any other 3PL as needed.
  • Oversee and execute all import and export operations including documentation requirements, preparation of Shipper Export Declaration (SED/EEI), Ocean Bill of Lading (OBL) House bill of ladings (HBOL), import arrival notifications, letters of credit for LCL/FCL (Less/Full Container Load), cargo insurance, hazardous cargo, cargo consolidation/deconsolidation, foreign-to-foreign shipments.
Qualifications and Qualities:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, International Business, Logistics or Sales related field. Equivalent experience in business and sales management will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership ability.
  • Familiarity with International Commercial Terms (INCOTERMS) and shipping terms.
  • Must be able to prioritize and be detail oriented.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience in the NVOCC ocean transportation industry. To include export and import documentation, coordinating inland trucking for LCL/FCL (Less/Full Container Load), cargo insurance, hazardous cargo, cargo consolidation/deconsolidation and rate filing with FMC.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
  • Ability to travel domestic and international.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, multitask and possess strong initiative.
  • Experience in preparation of Shipper Export Declaration (SED/EEI), Ocean Bill of Lading (OBL) documents, import arrival notifications, ISF & AMS.
  • Advance computer skills (in programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Effective analytical and negotiating skills relevant to rating, pricing, and bookings.
  • Knowledge of state, federal and international applicable laws, and regulations (Federal Maritime Commission, OFAC, Interstate Commerce Commission, U.S. Customs, environmental and hazardous, import/export, maritime Air and Civil Aeronautics Board).
  • Proven ability to establish or enhance ocean import/export operational functions.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Must be able to prioritize and be detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated skills relevant to evaluating rating and pricing information.
  • Knowledge of Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) applicable laws and regulations.
