Departmental Overview
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking an Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing.
The Graphic Designer is responsible for providing creative and graphic design support for the Cal athletics department.
The successful candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, great leadership and a good communicator and possess the ability to manage high volume assignments in an efficient and timely manner. This includes the ability to adjust to unscheduled developments that require immediate attention.

Responsibilities
Develop creative for ads, print collateral, packaging, logos, signage, web ads, social graphics and email.
Maintain Cal athletics brand guidelines and logo usage. Update as needed.
Mentor and work directly with Graphic Design intern.
Collaborate with other colleagues on creative projects that drive brand awareness, revenue generation, etc.
Assist with creative photo shoots, media days, etc.
Stay current on design trends.
Always pushing the creative envelope.
Assist with game day presentation elements for select sports.
Provide direction to freelance designers and writers.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Innovative thinking in creating visual solutions
Creative and forward-thinking problem solving
Firm pulse on audience demographic.
Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Ability to work on both PC and Mac platforms.
Exceptional ability to work in a networked way, emphasizing collaboration in a complex environment.
Ability to perform detail-oriented work accurately and to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to multi-task and respond to immediate needs while managing day-to-day activities.
Ability to build strong relationships with all constituents.
Ability to attend some game days & special events.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience in graphic design and creative development in a college athletics, professional sports, corporate or advertising agency setting.
A portfolio of work that represents a diverse creative skill set.
Exceptional creativity and attention to detail.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suites (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge and Acrobat). Experience with Dreamweaver, After Effects and Flash for web applications a plus.
Comfortable working on multiple projects at one time with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Effective customer service and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.
Must be a team player, willing to grow and take creative direction.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $65,000.00 - $70,000.00.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is exempt and paid monthly.
