Join our team at the California State University, Office of the Chancellor, and make a difference in providing access to higher education. We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of Graphic Designer. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 15 paid holidays a year.


Salary


The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $6,250 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.


The salary range for this classification is $3,977 to $7,197 per month.

Graphic Designer II


Position Information


The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Graphic Designer to provide support with the production and design of a variety of print and electronic communications projects. This position will work with design staff to produce communications that promote the California State University’s (CSU) programs and services.


Responsibilities


This position is long-term temporary with benefits.


Under the general direction of the Art Director, the Graphic Designer will perform duties as outlined below:


  • Communicates with partners about their strategy, objectives, target audience(s) and measurements to produce high quality, cost-effective communications on time and within budget.
  • Understands and utilizes a master brand and sub-brands within graphic standards; effectively communicates the value of preserving the CSU’s brand identity to partners and in all communications.
  • Works with accessibility requirements in developing and delivering print and web communications; produces accessible websites, documents and materials. Participates in the CO’s accessibility training.
  • May coordinate production processes in collaboration with the art director, marketing communications manager and print services manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Works with the art director to review designs, implement feedback and adjust strategy as needed.
  • At the direction of the art director, works with the project manager and/or marketing communications manager to prioritize workload and records project history and design time in the department’s job tracking software WorkZone.
  • Works collaboratively with the art director, project manager, marketing communications manager, web team and design staff from concept to completion through (but not limited to) the selection of graphic elements, typography, papers, inks, colors and production techniques.
  • Builds clean, production ready files
  • Creates visually effective web and print communications including but not limited to advertisements, animations, booklets, brochures, certificates, conference materials, electronic invitations, flyers, presentations, printed invitations, posters, promotional items, report covers and reports, social mediagraphics and stationery using a variety of software (i.e., Acrobat reader, After Effects, Excel, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Premiere, and others).


Qualifications


This position requires:


  • Skills to edit photos.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of web design, social media and animations.
  • Ability to oversee and follow-through projects from concept to delivery.
  • Thorough knowledge of graphic design principles, typography, printing and production methods (including pre-press, papers and inks).
  • Proficiency to communicate and document each step of the project’s progress with various personnel (including design staff, partners, vendors and marketing communications manager).
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field and 5 or more years of experience.
  • Experience with Print Services equipment (i.e., copiers, cutter and binder).
  • Ability to present concepts and design ideas clearly to colleagues and partners in group or one-to-one meetings.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple assignments.
  • Extreme attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple assignments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in addition to good presentation and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize design concepts/principles to Macintosh and PC platforms including Acrobat reader, After Effects, Excel, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Premiere and others.
  • Adheres to organizational structures and protocol, professional standards and business environments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to analyze, propose and implement solutions.
  • Ability to make sound judgment.
  • Familiar with various digital platforms and functionality.
  • Ability to work with an established brand and apply and educate others on graphic design standards.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Knowledgeable on current design trends and industry standards.
