Reporting to the National Director of Institutional Funding, the Grant Writing Specialist is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals and reports for national and chapter-level needs. The Grant Writing Specialist will conduct the full range of grant seeking activities for institutional funders (private, family, and corporate foundations) in the $25,000-$100,000 for asks that support JDRF’s goals (specifically in the realms of research, science, and medicine related to type 1 diabetes). This person will also assist in managing funder relationships and support special project initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Grant Writing
  • Assembles all necessary supporting materials and documents, including budget details, success stories, letters of support, standard attachments, etc.
  • Assists in proposal development and submission of requests of $100,000 and above for institutional funders.
  • Submits grant applications and monitors responses
  • Drafts proposals/letters of intent or inquiry, narratives, evaluation plans, and budgets
  • Collaborates with development and finance staff to finalize all materials for submission
  • Individual revenue generation per year: $500,000-$1,000,000
  • Leads grant proposal development and submission, including preparing and organizing materials for proposals of $25,000 to $100,000.
    • Drafts proposals/letters of intent or inquiry, narratives, evaluation plans, and budgets
    • Collaborates with development and finance staff to finalize all materials for submission
    • Assembles all necessary supporting materials and documents, including budget details, success stories, letters of support, standard attachments, etc.
    • Submits grant applications and monitors responses
Grants Management
  • Collaborates with finance, program, and research staff to gather information necessary to report to institutional funders on current grant programs
  • Monitors and maintains funder reporting schedules and requirements
  • Complies with all grant reporting as required by institutional funders
  • Assists with maintaining a master calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files and correspondence
  • Writes and submits progress and impact reports for all funding partners
Institutional Funder Prospecting
  • Performs and collaborates with the prospect research team and the National Director of Institutional Funding to identify institutional funding prospects
  • Ongoing communication and planning with chapter offices
  • Works collaboratively with staff at 29 chapters nationwide to identify appropriate funders and funding opportunities
Internal Collaboration
  • Collaborates with members of the Research Department to ensure scientific accuracy in proposal and report development
  • Collaborates with members of national departments (primarily Leadership Giving, Corporate Giving, Finance, Community Engagement, Advocacy, and Global)
  • Collaborates with the Director of Strategic Campaign Communications and other relevant team members to gather, organize, and develop information that fully captures ongoing programmatic successes to be used for stewardship reports to donors and institutional funders
Administration
  • Hands-on grant training for chapter staff, as requested
  • Assists with other projects as needed
  • Maintains institutional funding records in SharePoint, SmartSheets, and Salesforce
  • Assists with maintaining a library of grant support documents or standing attachments, including resumes/CVs, bios, IRS forms, financials, Board/staff lists, etc.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to function effectively as a team player
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong editing skills, including comfort with helping staff communicate their work to funders clearly and concisely
  • Commitment to producing exceptional work products
  • Experience with donor development/CRM software systems
  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Comfort engaging in multiple meetings daily/weekly
  • Excellent written communications skills with a proven ability to write persuasive proposals
  • Comfort collaborating with staff nationwide by phone, email, Teams, etc.
  • Excellent in multi-tasking, goal setting, and workload prioritization
  • Minimum requirement: Five years in five-figure grant proposal writing and development for health care agencies, medical research, or health-related nonprofit organizations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Effective, collegial communicator who can collaborate with all levels of staff
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet deadlines as needed
  • GPC preferred
Target Salary $60K - $75K
