Overview

Are you an experienced Grant Writer? We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, enthusiastic and inclusive staff member to join our Administration, Communication, and Excellence (ACE) Division as a Grant Writer and Coordinator.

This is a new position with the Department of Human Services! The Grant Writer and Coordinator will be responsible for fund development, planning management, and services related to grant writing, coordination and administration for the Human Services Department.

The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. This can be a fully remote position depending on the candidate's location. Although this position is limited term, individuals hired into limited term positions are eligible for County benefits, however, the position is limited in duration dependent upon available funding, business need or signed contract or agreement. This position is expected to last approximately 18 months, with the possibility of being longer term based on grant awards.

Responsibilities

Specifically, this position:

  • Maintains records in accordance with all applicable laws and rules.
  • Coordinates various teams internally and externally as needed to provide and receive feedback about projects being submitted for a grant opportunity.
  • Researches and identifies grant funding opportunities and sources at the federal, state, and local levels that match Human Services funding needs.
  • Identifies, develops, and/or writes opportunities and proposals for funding from organizations, agencies, private donors, corporations, and/or foundations for Human Service projects.
  • Writes, and submits grant proposals, applications, and supporting documents for grant programs.
  • Creates and maintains a calendar of grant submission deadlines, reporting timelines, and other important dates as it relates to the grant opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with Human Services staff, partnering departments, the community, and grant-making organizations.
  • Facilitates the process of moving from planning to implementation of grant projects and assist with identifying unmet needs in Human Services and/or the community.
  • Works collaboratively with Human Services staff, partnering departments, and the community to develop grant proposals.

We are looking for a candidate that will:

  • Have experience in writing grants specifically for local, state or federal government entities (SAMHSA, ACF, etc.)
  • Develop relationships with funders and community partners
  • Have knowledge of where to and how to monitor for grant opportunities; vet opportunities to determine grants for which to apply
  • Think strategically when crafting grants with an understanding of how a partner organization would implement the program with Human Services
  • Demonstrate strict adherence to deadlines
  • Facilitate collaborative conversations with a subject matter expert to convert to requirements for a grant opportunity
  • Be able to create a budget that will support a multitude of positions in Human Services in order to diversify funding sources
  • Have a familiarity with data reporting, program evaluation tactics, project management, development of budgets, a general understanding of the structure of government budgets, and the grant audit process
  • Ideally have some knowledge of the services and programs offered by the Human Services Department, and most importantly have the ability to ask questions to understand a project that may be unclear or complicated

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university with a degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in research or public administration, including experience in grant administration, grant management, grant coordination, obtaining funding for grants projects and programs, and grant writing required.

Supplemental Information

This position can be fully remote depending on candidate's location and may require quarterly attendance in the office with the division. Here is a list of states where remote work is available: https://www.larimer.gov/hr/employee-relations/remote-work/out-of-state

You will be required to have adequate internet access and space for remote work and be located in a state approved by Larimer County Human Resources. Larimer County provides an annual remote work stipend to assist with equipment and office supply needs for remote workspaces.

In office work could be located at one of the following three locations: 1501 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO 2555 Midpoint Drive, Fort Collins, CO 200 Peridot Avenue, Loveland, CO.

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
