Role Overview


We are looking for


This role is designed to plan and execute global automation and controls improvement projects and maintain the global automation systems for the Materials GBU North American operations. This is a position of influence and will require significant coordination across operational and functional organizations. People involved will be from all major functional groups within the GBU and several major functional groups from the Solvay corporate entities. Internal interfaces include site engineering, operations teams, Plant Management, Supply Chain, R&I, Technical Service, Commercial, and Information Technology. External interfaces include engineering and IT consultants.


Mission


  • Collaborate with other departments in the execution of process control projects.
  • Maintain DCS systems hardware and provide technical troubleshooting and loop tuning support.
  • Develop and lead the deployment of automation robotics projects and systems.
  • Support the development and updates of the software for DCS, PLC, and HMI applications.
  • Support reliability improvements and ensure changes/modifications follow a documented management of the change process.
  • Support the development and implementation of the automation scope for new projects and existing applications as a team member in the Process Control and Automation department.
  • Partner with the Group IT functions to design, deploy, and troubleshoot issues related to manufacturing execution systems.
  • Develop and lead the deployment and maintenance of the GBU controls, cybersecurity of the process data network projects and systems.
  • Support the development and deployment of data collection and reporting systems for process and production systems.

  • Regular project reviews and special assignments provide exposure to multiple aspects of Operations and Commercial activities. Technical career paths within Engineering or Operational roles are reasonable next steps.


You will bring


  • Experience working with and managing engineering and controls contractors.
  • Conversant with Root Cause Analysis methodology/ techniques and how to apply them related to automation systems.
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Writing user requirement specifications for process control applications.
  • Project management experience around process control and automation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience, with a solid preference for Controls, Automation, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Practical experience in the functional and technical design of automation, process control, and manufacturing execution systems as an engineer ideally in the food, pharmaceutical, or chemicals industries.
  • 5 years of experience with process controls and process data management.
  • DCS and PLC programming knowledge, practical experience of Emerson Delta V DCS, Allen Bradley, and Siemens PLCs.
  • Practical experience in developing tools to collect and report process and production data from existing manufacturing, lab, and ERP systems.
  • Experience developing and deploying electrical controls and automation technologies in an industrial manufacturing environment.


You will get:


  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $103,306 to $130,000. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
