Job Description
Overview:
Merrick & Company is seeking a GIS Analyst with at least three (3) years of experience to join our growing team at our client project office in Tucker, GA.

  • Applies cartographic standards to prepare maps and exhibits using GIS datasets
  • Takes initiative to perform GIS data gathering, digitizing, conversion, and analysis
  • Work independently and as part of a project team to provide GIS support during the planning, design, and construction phases of transmission line and substation projects.
  • Employs GIS standards to maintain GIS database and project organization structures
Required Experience
  • Demonstration of understanding of cartographic methods, ability to follow cartographic standards, and ability to review map products created by others for adherence to established standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic GIS concepts and methodologies such as drawing scale, spatial databases, spatial projections and coordinate systems, text and annotation placement, layer control, definition queries.
  • Able to provide direction to Technician staff for cartographic support on projects
  • Able to work in a team and multitask
  • Attention to detail, organized, customer focused
  • Effective communicator and experience presenting in front of small – medium sized groups
  • Familiarity with mobile GIS applications like ESRI’s Field Maps & Survey 123
  • Demonstrated understanding of analytical GIS concepts such as spatial analysis, table and spatial joins, 3D analyst tools, and use of CAD data within GIS.
  • Ability to track and report project progress for timesheet and budget reporting
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s degree OR Associates is required
  • Knowledge of shapefiles, geodatabases, and able to work within an SDE environment
  • Some field work will be required, accompany project teams to transmission line study areas and walking in proposed rights-of-way to collect GPS locations
  • Knowledge of data projections and how to manipulate
  • 3 -5 years’ experience working with ESRI 10.x software applications and extensions required, experience with ArcPro is a plus
  • Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required, Access preferred
  • Ability to work effectively on tight deadlines when necessary
Physical Requirements
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.

Work Environment
The worker is subject to variable climate and environmental conditions including but not limited to extreme cold and heat as well extended periods of time in an office environment. Some travel will be required.
