Description

The Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst is responsible for providing GIS services to external and/or internal clients in a shared services environment. Work will focus primarily on supporting Energy (Hydropower, Transmission/Distribution, Wind, Solar), Mining and Oil and Gas projects. The GIS Analyst determines internal client needs and proposes optimal GIS and geospatial technologies and solutions to meet business needs.

Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting full-time position working within our Energy & Resources Integrated Design business operating unit within Stantec. The selected candidate can be based either the United States or Canada. In the United States, priority may be given to individuals located in near our Denver, CO; Fort Collins, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Salt Lake City, UT; Irvine, CA; or San Diego, CA hub offices. In Canada, our Calgary and Edmonton office locations would be of priority. Flexible (e.g., in-office, hybrid, virtual) work schedules are available. The position will be joining an existing dynamic 10-person GIS group to support exciting projects across Canada, United States and extending worldwide. The desired candidate should be well rounded across the entire GIS platform.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design and management of project GIS databases along with the compiling of geographic information to support specific GIS project tasks.
  • Applying GIS theories, principles and software to efficiently meet project demands.
  • Developing high quality cartographic work products both in the desktop and web environments.
  • Collaborating with existing GIS, CAD and non-geospatial staff members across the company.
  • Design and configuration of mobile data collection workflows using Esri specific mobile applications.
  • Conduct simple to complex spatial analyses using both vector and raster data types to provide insights to planning, engineering, environmental and geotechnical project tasks.
  • Adhering to established cartographic standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Capabilities and Credentials

  • Solid foundation in coordinate system projections and transformations.
  • Proficient in both vector and raster data management and analysis techniques.
  • Proficient with Esri ArcGIS Pro
  • Strong cartographic skills for both desktop and web-based maps.
  • Strong experience with the Esri ArcGIS Platform (i.e., Desktop, ArcPro, ArcGIS Online).
  • Familiarity configuring Esri mobile data collection applications (e.g., Field Maps, Survey123) to meet a wide variety of project field data collection needs.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online and/or Portal to publish project sensitive data within custom web maps and applications for consumption by project teams, the client and/or public.
  • Well established understanding of GIS theory and principles (e.g., vector, raster, coordinate systems, projections, transformations, cartography, etc).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or an advanced degree in GIS, geology, geomatics, geotechnical engineering, environmental science, or related field with demonstrated GIS training or coursework.
  • Specific experience providing GIS services within the Energy, Mining, and Oil and Gas industry sectors will be considered a strength but is not required.
  • Prior experience within a consulting environment will be considered valuable.
  • Demonstrated skills in python scripting (or other languages) will be considered valuable.
  • 0 to 7 years demonstrated professional work experience performing GIS tasks. An equivalent combination of recent education and job experience may be sufficient to successfully perform the essential job duties.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is an added benefit, but not a requirement.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

55,000.00 - 77,000.00 (CA, CO, WA locations only)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
