Job Description
Job Title: General Manager
Department: Administration
Supervisor: Owner(s)/Managing Partner(s)
Summary Description
Oversee and manage the operation of the dealership. Responsible for maximizing return on investment, profit and loss, daily operation, planning, development, and implementation of marketing plans for both short-term and long-term growth. Has direct responsibility for managing and controlling dealership assets, as well as managing and developing employees for future growth.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Establish and communicate operating policies and procedures for dealership.
  • Balance the demands of employees, suppliers, customers, owners, and community.
  • Approve all major departmental expenditures.
  • Ensure departments maintain budgeted revenue and expense objectives.
  • Coach, counsel and evaluate direct reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Set and/or approve compensation plans for dealership personnel.
  • Monthly composite review with managers.
  • Provide direction and coordination for all areas of dealership operation.
  • Hold department managers accountable for established monthly and annual objectives and financial goals.
  • Manage conflicts between departments and individuals within the dealership.
  • Delegate responsibility to managers as needed.
  • Manage recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and termination of personnel.
  • Provide appropriate training for management team to have the skills to do their job. (seminars, sales training, technical training, etc.)
  • Set policies, procedures and processes for dealership.
  • Conduct performance reviews on a regular basis for direct reports.
  • In collaboration with the Owner(s)/Managing Partner(s), make recommendations/changes to the operating plan and related budgets.
  • Maintain records, controls and requests reports from subordinates to evaluate dealership performance.
  • Hold management accountable for leading their people.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manages recruitment, interviewing, hiring and termination of staff.
  • Conducts performance reviews on a regular basis for direct reports.

Qualifications & Job Requirements
  • Knowledge and experience with servicing of marine and other products sold by the dealership, or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn them.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, along with general email/internet.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all financial and management aspects of a $50+ million-dollar business.
  • Excellent communication skills including written and verbal/interpersonal.
  • Experience using various Google Drive applications to include but not limited to Google Sheets and Google Docs a plus.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, manage, and retain quality employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to resolve problems with other dealership employees, suppliers, manufacturers, and governmental agencies.
  • Must be able to multitask and input data with accuracy and efficiency in a high paced environment.
  • 7 years or more of progressive dealership management experience preferred.
  • Capable of maintaining confidentiality of appropriate information.
Physical Demands
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift 25lbs of material.
  • Requires standing and/or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the use of both hands.
Working Conditions
  • Potential exposure to battery acid, gasoline, chemical cleaning materials or other toxic materials commonly found in a motor vehicle service department.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Occasionally exposed to exhaust fumes or other airborne particles.
In addition to the outlined essential job functions, the employee is required to complete all additional tasks assigned by his/her supervisor, as the supervisor sees fit for the position. Failure to comply will result in immediate discipline at the discretion of dealership management.
