Job Description

General Manager

The General Manager will oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations for all New York City retail operations of Malai, including overseeing our 3 brick and mortar locations, increasing sales, anticipating demand, supporting and developing team members and ensuring a positive customer experience.


The role will report directly to the Founder/CEO and is responsible for leading daily operational efforts to drive sales and create a strong community by sharing Malai’s love and passion for South Asian culture, ice cream, and bringing moments of joy to our customers.


What You Will Do:

  • Work with the CEO on larger initiatives related to operational procedures, financial forecasting and reporting, and team member recruitment and coaching.
  • Develop relationships with local restaurants and businesses to increase wholesale food service distribution and partnerships.
  • Train team members, helping to address areas for growth and fostering high-potential talent at every level through continuous learning.
  • Cultivate an inclusive culture and positive work environment for all team members.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, including overseeing store and shipment teams, overseeing all catering and events, maintaining DOH standards, creating the weekly schedule, administering payroll, performing regular maintenance of equipment, and overseeing inventory and purchasing.
  • Strategize and recommend changes to hit sales goals, increase foot traffic, manage costs, and improve relationships with vendors and community members.


What We Are Looking For:

  • Detail oriented. The capacity to break down larger goals into day-to-day action.
  • NYC Food Protection Certificate required.
  • 3 years of prior supervisory experience in a food/beverage or retail environment
  • Ability to balance great customer service with strategic business practices
  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to Malai’s core values
  • Adaptability and flexibility – the ability to calmly and appropriately handle unplanned problems.
  • A strong team member who will elevate those around you and always be willing to step up when help is needed.


Schedule:

  • Full-time; scheduling flexibility with weekend availability required
