Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readines s at Penn State is seeking a talented Full Stack Developer (Programmer/Analyst 2 or 3) who is passionate about creating innovative web applications to join our dynamic team.

As the Full Stack Web Developer, you will play a pivotal role in the development and maintenance of web applications and platforms that significantly impact the lives of military service members and their families. This position entails supporting existing web applications and leading the development of new projects. Additionally, you will contribute to the enhancement and upkeep of the Clearinghouse's front-facing websites.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities: Following will be the key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into well-defined functional and technical specifications.
  • Perform regular testing and debugging to identify and resolve performance issues and bugs.
  • Optimize web applications for maximum speed, scalability, and security.
  • Manage, update, and maintain web applications using various programming languages, with a strong focus on ReactJS.
  • Ensure web applications' cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility.
  • Deploy and maintain web applications on production servers.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in web development.
  • Create visually appealing and interactive user experiences through the incorporation of modern design principles and front-end technologies.
  • Design, develop, and implement intuitive, responsive, and user-friendly web interfaces utilizing HTML, CSS (SCSS/SASS), PHP, and JavaScript frameworks.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of diverse Clearinghouse full-stack development projects.

Education and Experience: This position typically requires an Associate's degree for a Level 2, and 2+ years in addition for a Level 3. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field is strongly preferred.

Other experience includes:

  • Familiarity with database systems and web application security best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and acute attention to detail.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Agile development methodologies.
  • Proficiency in both front-end and back-end web technologies, particularly JavaScript libraries (ReactJS, NodeJS, Angular, etc.).
  • Strong proficiency in HTML5 and modern CSS frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap).
  • Solid understanding of responsive design principles.
  • Proven experience as a Full Stack Web Developer with a strong focus on front-end web development.
  • Knowledge of server-side programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js) is a plus.

This is a limited-term position, funded for one year from the start date, with excellent chances of renewal.
