DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the development, planning, and evaluation of Grade A milk program requirements on dairy farms, dairy processing plants, transfer and receiving stations throughout Pennsylvania. The Program Specialist develops training and certification protocols for milk inspectors, the Pennsylvania Approved Inspector, and Interstate Milk Shippers Program Rating Officers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in the assigned office location.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will be physically headquartered in one of the following locations: Region 2, Montoursville; Region 6, Harrisburg; or Region 7 Collegeville. The headquarters determination will be based upon the office location listed on the posting which is in the closest proximity to the selected candidate's current residence.
  • Full-time employment.
  • This position requires statewide travel, occasional travel out of state, and overnight stays.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Food Inspector 2; or
  • Four years of experience in the inspection of food establishments or food processing facilities, and a bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Necessary Special Requirement:
  • You must possess an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license.
Other Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
