The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a full-time Fleet Mechanic with the Town of Avon’s Fleet division.
The Fleet Mechanic position performs preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment [e.g., emergency vehicles (fire, ambulance, and police), transit buses, excavators, snowplows, dump trucks, mowers, 4WD trucks, and passenger vehicles] and on a range of systems [e.g. mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic]. Performs the work efficiently at an average annual billable ratio (hours divided by total hours worked) of at least 67% and a target goal of 80%.
We are interested in candidates for Fleet Mechanic I and II positions. Applicants will be considered for both positions, depending on qualifications.

Essential Functions:
- Respond to road calls and perform field repairs as necessary
- Valid Colorado class B CDL with P2 and Air Brake endorsements driver’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Use Avon’s customized Fleet maintenance computer software FASTER (e.g., to open/close work orders, accurately document work performed and parts used, and insert comments.)
- Analyze and diagnose on-board electronics and computers using diagnostic data readers and laptop computers to include any of the following: ATEC, WTEC, DDEC 2, 3 and 4, ZF transmissions, automobile OBD II
- Prioritize and process work requests
- Comply with all TOA safety and health policies and procedures in order promote a safe work environment
- Pick-up and delivery of vehicles and equipment throughout the rocky mountain region
- Perform shop clean up
- Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, which includes some of the following:
- Schedule fleet repair and maintenance with TOA departments and third parties
- Diagnose failures and repair malfunctions of electrical and mechanical systems or components
- Operate heavy equipment, plow trucks, fire trucks, police cars, sweepers and buses
- Responsible for evaluating the safety of vehicles and equipment and communicates this information to the fleet manager and/or customer
- Manage fleet parts inventory

Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate’s degree or trade school degree is preferred with two (2) years or more of experience working as an equipment and/or vehicle mechanic or mechanic’s helper and Certification to utilize recycling/charging equipment for air conditioning is preferred. Applicant must have adequate set of hand tools in a roll-around toolbox.
