Job Description
Position Summary:
The Health Club attendant is responsible for overseeing everything that goes on in a fitness club. Their duties range from ensuring that members understand what they are supposed to do and assisting in the maintenance of supplies and equipment around the health club. Health club attendants also handle many administrative duties which may include making member registration processes smooth and ensuring that there is a constant supply of health club supplies. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

General Responsibilities:
  • Distributes and ensures cleanliness of towels.
  • Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
  • Assists with set-up of equipment and maintenance of gym facilities.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Serves as source of information regarding the operation and use of exercise equipment.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Interprets physical fitness profiles and establishes exercise programs for customers.
  • May perform scheduling duties for gym classes.
  • May repair and maintain or schedule regular maintenance for equipment.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Cleans exercise equipment, shower and locker facilities with germicides and other cleaners and stacking required supplies (such as towels etc.).
  • Follows Sodexo client and regulatory agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Maturity of judgment and behavior.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and some holidays.
  • Maintains high standards for work areas and appearance.
  • Must comply with any dress code requirements.
  • Willingness to be open to learning and growing.
  • Attends work and shows up for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity in light of Sodexo time and attendance policy and/or client operating hours.
Experience/Knowledge:
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable about applicable health and dietary rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to perform emergency medical procedures, such as CPR.
  • 2 to 3 years of related work experience.
Skills/Aptitude:
  • Ability to maintain a professional relationship with all coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers and client representatives.
  • Ability to provide clear directions and respond accordingly to employees.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to present self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in all OSHA and local requirements related to all assigned work.
  • Ability to use all relevant electronic and communication devices.
  • Must be able to coordinate the routine responsibilities of staff and resources.
  • Adapts procedures, processes, tools equipment and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
License/Qualifications:
  • May require CPR and/or Life Guard certifications.
  • May be required to obtain a CPO (Certified Pool Operator’s License) as applicable within 3 months of obtaining the position.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
Working Conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location):
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.
  • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends, and extended hours as business dictates.
  • Wears protective clothing and/or Personal Protective Equipment required by the work environment or governmental regulations.
