Located in the heart of the Baltimore/Washington corridor, Prince George’s County borders Washington D.C. and is just 37 miles south of the city of Baltimore. Encompassing almost 500 square miles, with over 900,000 residents Prince George's County has an urban atmosphere that still manages to provide a scenic and peaceful place to live, work, and play.

Prince George’s County, Office of Central Services of is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, grade G-23, within its Facilities Operation and Management Division.

About this Position:

This is supervisory level work over skilled craft, labor and trades personnel engaged in the new construction, installation, repair, renovation, and maintenance of mechanical/non-mechanical construction projects. Work includes assigning and inspecting new and on-going construction/maintenance projects to ensure conformance and completion and aiding crews in resolving day-to-day issues. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement involving facility management and/or building maintenance and operation. Work in this class is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and reviewing the work of professionals, supervisors, skilled tradespersons, semi-skilled, and unskilled engaged in a variety of tasks involving maintenance operations.


The hired candidate may be required to travel/work throughout Prince George's County

Examples of Work

  • Conducts past performance appraisals, provides constructive counseling, guidance, training, and progressive discipline.
  • Plans, estimates, inspects, and renders reports of in-house renovations, new installations and maintenance.
  • Plans, supervises and evaluates the work of skilled trades personnel in the repair, renovations, and preventive maintenance of various County owned and leased facilities.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but fall within the general occupational category a responsibility level typically associated with the incumbent class of work.
  • Monitors performance of contracted vendors in the repair, maintenance, and installation services in accordance with established specifications.
  • Determines priorities, manpower requirements, materials, and equipment needed for operating/maintaining County buildings in proper state of repair.
  • Confers and coordinates with building occupants, contractors, engineers, inspectors, and other County agencies in order to explain, clarify, and resolve construction/maintenance service issues.

  • Five (5) years of work experience in one or more of the skilled trades which included the actual installing, maintaining and repairing of the specific equipment involved.
    • Two (2) of the five (5) years must have been at the supervisory capacity (oversaw the work of other maintenance personnel).
  • Eligibility for any specific license(s) as required for the specific position.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent or completion of an apprenticeship program in one (1) or more of the skilled trades
  • Two (2) of the five (5) years must have been at the supervisory capacity (oversaw the work of other maintenance personnel).
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess a Master Electrician’s License
  • Possess a Maryland Stationary Engineer’s License (grade three and above)
  • Possess a Master Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician’s License
  • Possess a Master Plumber’s License

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Upon selection, the candidate must:
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Participate as an "Essential" employee in the department's snow and ice control program and other emergency or special activities as assigned.
  • Be willing to respond to emergency service calls on a 24-hour basis.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed indoors/outdoors, may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, temperatures, loud noises, dust, fumes, and includes physical activities such as repeated pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, use of rapid mental/muscular coordination, and lifting heavy objects of up to forty-five (45) pounds. Work in this class requires incumbents to wear safety items/uniforms while on duty.
