Job Description
  • Provide support to Expedition Staffing and Training teams with regards to (but not limited to) appraisals, mentoring, training implementation and evaluation of expedition staff and operational procedures
  • Support any land based training, staff development projects, leadership briefings, pre-joining training and de-briefings, as required
  • In collaboration with the Expedition Staff Development & Outreach Coordinator, assist in the planning and implementation of training and staff development initiatives for the Expedition fleet
  • Build strong interdepartmental relationships with onboard Management team. Where appropriate, extend assistance in trainings that involve other departments
  • When trainings / assessments are not possible - work alongside Expedition team, assisting in Zodiac driving, shore party or gangway duties, as assigned by Expedition Leader
  • Partner with Interdepartmental Corporate Management in the implementation of departmental and position-specific training programs, including the Mentor Program, On Board Orientation Program, Cross-Training Program, etc
  • Deliver motivational and engaging training sessions onboard for expedition staff; monitor effectiveness of training and inductions
  • Be intimately familiar with Company’s requirements and expectations regarding level of technical and knowledge-based preparedness for remote expedition operations
  • Closely work with Expedition Staff Development and Outreach coordinator in establishing training priorities, recognizing shortfalls, and planning relevant developmental and training programs. Create training schedules in collaboration with onboard and shore side Management
  • Contribute to ongoing review, implementation and evaluation (of staff) related to the Expedition Operations Manual (SOPs), Expedition Administration Manual, and other operational and training programs


Requirements


  • Small boat driving license and proficiency
  • For operating in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, a good working knowledge of AECO and IAATO regulations and environmental policies
  • Minimum 5 Years expedition cruise industry (or relevant) background
  • Proficient administrative skills
  • Physically and medically fit
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and workplace diplomacy skills
  • PTGA Assessor status. Alternatively, Senior PTGA status and commitment to become Assessor within first six month of contract
  • Understanding of sea charts, weather patterns and local conditions of area of operation
  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Experience in facilitating staff development and training including (but not limited to) teaching, leadership, mentoring, team-building, and assessment
  • Proactive approach to problem solving. Adaptable to change, quick-thinking, and able to make decisions under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail
  • Work experience in both polar and tropical regions
