Job Description

Executive Director

The Executive Director (ED) has overall operational responsibility for Changing Tides Foundation’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. Also has deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans and strong commitment to CTF’s mission to empower women to protect the planet and promote inclusivity and diversity in and out of the ocean.


Location: Encinitas, California

Time Commitment: 30 hours per week

Pay: $35/hr


About Changing Tides Foundation


Changing Tides Foundation (CTF) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower women to protect the planet and promote inclusivity and diversity in and out of the ocean. Founded by female surfers and located in Encinitas, California, the CTF team uses surfing as a tool for environmental education and empowerment and has cultivated a community of impassioned environmental stewards who care about how our individual actions can create collective change.


About the Role


As the Executive Director, your main responsibility will be to ensure the successful operations of Changing Tides Foundation. You will oversee the day to day operations, manage the staff and providers, communicate and provide reporting to the Board and contribute to the foundational structure and development of our still developing organization. Applicants should be local to the North County San Diego Coastal area.


Reporting to the Board of Directors, you are the key individual who ensures the staff of CTF clearly understands and engages in work which supports their vision and direction. You will work closely with the project manager to ensure succession creation and implementation of the business and creative projects to drive the mission of CTF. You will be a vital participant in Partnership Management, and will lead the development of a partnership program.


Key responsibilities


  • Oversees projects and programs and identifies the partnerships necessary for execution, while attending as many local events as possible to maintain CTF’s strong network
  • Recommends timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals
  • Managing and responding to emails on behalf of CTF
  • Communicates annual budget reviews, monthly and quarterly reviews, and periodic forecast updates with the finance committee and board of directors
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations and administration, obligations and coordination, like coordinating online orders and website updates
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, evaluating, and direction of the organization’s operations and programs
  • Building frameworks and structures for operations
  • Manage and provide organizational support for CTF’s administration, project and program teams, contractors and interns
  • Prepares accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate fundraising results, variances, and performance trends
  • Manages bank accounts and bill payments, tracks budgets
  • Ensures effective systems to track scaling progress and evaluate program components and reports on the organization’s results for board of directors
  • Supports the strong Board of Directors, helps facilitate board involvement with committee roles
  • Leads fundraising efforts, grant applications and administration, individual and corporate donations and partnerships.
