Position Description for CUE, Inc.
The Board of Directors of CUE, Inc., is seeking a highly qualified leader to serve as Executive Director. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position on a date mutually agreeable to the candidate and organization.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Directors in identifying and screening the candidates.
Description: CUE (Computer-Using Educators) is a nonprofit educational corporation founded in 1978. CUE’s goal is to inspire innovative learners in all disciplines from preschool through college. With an active current membership of thousands of educational professionals, CUE supports 23 regional affiliates and nine Learning Networks. CUE Conferences are California’s premier educational technology events drawing educators from all over the world. CUE is the largest organization of its type in the west and one of the largest in the United States.

Job Summary
We are looking for an Executive Director to join our team and guide our organization forward by overseeing all operational, financial, and technical aspects of the organization.
Non-Profit Executive Director’s responsibilities include preparing accurate financial reports for the board of directors, assisting with volunteer recruitment activities, leading annual budget reviews, and seeking grants from outside funding.
The Executive Director will work with various volunteers and other professionals in the organization to ensure CUE hits the annual fundraising goals and continue to build our membership base for future success.
CUE is a statewide organization with more than 1,000 members. Our purpose has shifted over the years; we began as an ed tech organization and have slowly begun to see ourselves as a community of members dedicated to ensuring classroom technology is accessible to all students. We seek a leader who is entrepreneurial, visionary, charismatic, and has the ability to build community. This dynamic leader will hold the responsibility to move our organization towards fiscal wholeness, increase our membership by 40%, and ensure we are building an organization that is rooted in antiracist principles.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Governance
- Serve as a key leader on the Internal Operations team.
- Provide counsel, analysis, and recommendations on strategies to ensure organizational financial success.
- Advance the development of strategic goals and objectives.
- Identify and manage organizational risk by aligning internal controls.
Finance, Accounting, and Grants Management
- Oversee grants management, policies and processes around donor compliance, and sub-award management.
- Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the executive team.
- Ensure responsiveness and quality customer service that effectively uses analysis to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Lead the development and implementation of financial policies, systems, and procedures to support organizational stability and growth.
- Ensure financial operations have efficient, smooth workflows.
- Lead finance team in long-term financial planning, bringing together finance, strategy, and business development. Identify and propose options for investment planning.
Team Development and Leadership
- Establish and monitor staff performance.
- Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.
- Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
- This position communicates with a diverse staff in multiple locations using email, video, and audio conference technology. This position must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate remotely and in person.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Acknowledge and understand the ever-changing environment of technology, pedagogy, and education.
Qualifications
- An effective collaborator and communicator who listens to the organization’s affiliates, fosters critical thinking in a group setting to bring people together
- A manager who has an operational understanding of not-for-profit financing to impact the efficiency and effectiveness in the organization to meet the established goals
- A leader committed to organizational success integral to the culture of the organization and brings a demonstrated success in a non-profit organization through fundraising events
- The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities to excel as a leader in a non-profit organization
- An ethical leader with a strong personal work ethic who leads by example
Compensation: $150,000, plus medical, dental, vision, and retirement benefits
Requirements/Other
- Master’s degree preferred
- Undergraduate degree in marketing, finance, or similar discipline
- Administrative experience in a not-for-profit organization preferred
