LOCATION OF POSITION

MDH/Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Office of Oral Health, Baltimore, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will design, conduct and analyze epidemiological investigations for oral health disease surveillance. This position will also provide support for all data and analysis-related efforts within the Maryland Department of Health (MDH)'s Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA)'s Office of Oral Health (OOH). This position will function as a Technical Investigator in Epidemiology to model and analyze data coordination, collection, visualization, analysis, and maintenance of oral health surveillance efforts on a Statewide and jurisdiction-specific level.

In addition, this position will interpret data, disseminate such data to internal and external partners and stakeholders, and prepare reports and consumer-friendly data products. Furthermore, this position will guide and direct subordinate staff members during investigations. Finally, this position will coordinate with other agencies, including providing data and technical assistance to partners and stakeholders.

Analyses produced by this position are essential to guide policy, programs, funding, and award decision-making. This position will be responsible for analyzing data, generating analysis reports, and communicating analyses and recommendations. This position is considered OOH’s Data Analysis Investigator and will represent OOH in the oral health community accordingly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist, after receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Health Care Science classifications, or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and investigating epidemiological and statistical oral health data. The desired candidate should also have experience providing presentations and developing talking points for such presentations, including drafting meeting materials for stakeholder meetings.
