The Opportunity
Abt Associates seeks a qualified Environmental Health Analyst to support the Division of Health and Environment. The successful candidate will become part of an interdisciplinary team conducting novel and required research in support of national-level environmental programs. The Analyst will support projects across our portfolio, including at ATSDR, EPA and OSHA, state and tribal agencies and non-profits.
Core Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of environmental epidemiology, toxcology, human health data and human health risk assessment methods applicable to both standard setting and quantifying the economic benefits of environmental or occupational regulations. The associate will
- Perform chemical risk assessments, exposure assessment/modeling, and/or methods development in these areas
- Draft sections of comprehensive documents such as toxicology profiles
- Assist in the quantifying the benefits of various environmental regulations, including the environmental justice impacts of rule options or permitting activities
- Communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including scientific experts, regulators, and the public
- Additionally, the successful candidate will conduct literature reviews, including systematic reviews, synthesizing toxicological and environmental/occupational epidemiology studies into reports,
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, memos, papers, web sites, presentations, and other materials for use by senior environmental managers and release to the public
- Conduct statistical and other quantitative analyses including dose-response modeling to support the above-mentioned projects
What We Value
- The preferred candidate will have an outstanding academic record and work experience in the field
- Coursework in toxicology, human health risk assessment, quantitative methods, epidemiology, biology, physiology, physical and/or environmental sciences is desirable
- Excellent oral communication, writing, and analytical skills are essential
- Experience with PBPK models, or dose-response modeling including benchmark dose software, probabilistic models and/or programming language skills such as R/STATA/SAS preferred
- Understanding and experience summarizing and interpreting data in large databases such as NHANES, SEERS and CDC Wonder
- Bachelor’s Degree + Three years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $56,618.52 to $79,265.93, and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
