Environmental Compliance Inspector Jobs

Coordinates and provides for the enforcement of regulations governing environmental health; conducts inspections relative to area of assignment; responds to public inquiries regarding various types of matters; investigates and resolves complaints; prepares and maintains records and reports; prepares and presents case testimony in court and performs other related duties.

When assigned to Substandard and Dangerous Building enforcement:

• Interprets and provides for the enforcement of local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances governing environmental health, safety, zoning, and/or building.
• Prepares, updates, maintains, and/or submits a variety of records, reports, and documentation.
• Investigates and documents public nuisance complaints involving property maintenance and Substandard and Dangerous Building violations; obtains photographic evidence.
• Responds to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from the public.
• Issues written correspondence and notices regarding violations; communicates necessary corrective action required to property owners; follows up to ensure appropriate compliance.
• Initiates legal action against violators as required; prepares and presents case testimony in court.
• Identifies and issues repair/demolition notices for substandard structures.
• Performs other duties relative to area of assignment as assigned or required.

• Investigates and documents public nuisance complaints involving property maintenance and Multi-Family dwelling units or other alleged environmental health code violations; obtains photographic evidence.
• Interprets and provides for the enforcement of local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, codes and ordinances governing environmental health, safety, zoning, and/or building regulations.
• Issues written correspondence and notices regarding violations; communicates necessary corrective action required to property owners; follows up to ensure appropriate compliance.
• Initiates legal action against violators as required; prepares and presents case testimony to court.
• Prepares, updates, maintains, and/or submits a variety of records, reports, and documentation.

High School diploma or equivalent and four years’ experience performing environmental compliance inspections; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer I and II. ICC Zoning Code and Property Maintenance Inspector certifications. NPDES Certified Storm Water Inspector – Municipal. ICC Residential Inspector – Substandard Building Assignment OR ICC Commercial Inspector – Multi-Family Assignment obtained within one year of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Exposure to variable weather conditions, vehicle traffic, machinery with moving parts, noise from equipment operation, electrical currents, hazardous materials/chemicals, infectious diseases, animals/wildlife, and potentially irate members of the public is involved.
