POSITION SUMMARY

An Engineering Internship at RIX Industries provides a rich opportunity to gain engineering experience on a multitude of technical tasks in a design, build and test business environment.

RIX Industries is seeking highly motivated, self-starting mechanical, electrical, industrial and manufacturing engineering students to work with the engineering departments within RIX’s Design Engineering, Engineering Services and Research and Development Teams. Engineers at RIX enjoy a high level, leading role on all aspects of projects while interacting with all business functions. Interns working with these engineers will gain experience on a wide spectrum of inter-disciplinary duties, thereby building a solid foundation for working in a typical design/build/test business.

APPLICATIONS

RIX Industries has been a global provider of gas compression, gas separation and cryogenic equipment for Military and Commercial customers since 1878 from its Benicia, CA (HQ) and Sparks, NV facilities. RIX provides compressed gas systems for a wide range of sizes, pressures and applications:

• RIX also has a wide range of large scale compressors, gas separation and cryogenic liquefaction systems for naval surface and submarine ships. Gas Compressors range from low pressure (125 psig) to high pressure (4500 psig) applications. Gas Separation systems generate nearly pure N2 or O2 for ships and mobile Ground Support Equipment (GSE) packages. Cryogenic Liquefaction systems liquefy O2 in order minimize storage volume on Aircraft Carriers.
• RIX produces specialty compressors for aircraft applications. These highly integrated (electronic controls, drive motor, compression modules) compressors fit in small envelopes, yet supply high pressure gas for ordnance launch purposes. The group is also promoting ground vehicle integrated compressors for emergency egress and tire inflation.
• RIX offers a broad spectrum of gas compression applications. These range from small air compressors for SCUBA tanks, selling for a few thousand dollars, all the way up to large scale, custom compressors for industrial applications such as chemical plants, refineries, or mines. These massive compressors can weigh in excess of 25,000 lbs., stand over 12 feet high, and be priced in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:

Intern activities may include any of the following:

• Must be a team player with a strong work ethic
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be willing to work cross-functionally with other departments
• Other duties as assigned by the Senior engineering staff
• Supporting test planning, conduct and reporting
• Microsoft Excel and pivot tables
• Updating bills of material (BOMs)
• Processing engineering documentation
• 2D and 3D modeling
• Design to unit production cost (DTUPC) efforts
• Supporting ongoing manufacturing and procurement processes
• Creation/amendment of technical user manuals
• Must be willing to commute to Benicia, CA headquarters

In addition, you may be assigned a long term special project allowing greater ownership and higher autonomy to develop your engineering skills in a fast-paced engineering environment.
