What To Expect
Disclaimer: This posting is for both the Spring and/or Summer terms. Please accurately state your availability when applying. The Spring Internship is expected to start around January 2024 and continue through the entire Spring term (i.e. through May 2024). The Summer Internship is expected to start around May 2024 and continue through the entire Summer term (i.e. through August 2024). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site. Please consider before submitting an application.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time depending on their academic standing.

    Energy | Battery Energy Storage Project Engineer
  • The Tesla Energy team is committed, and fast moving. We are a group of applications engineers, power systems engineers, and project engineers that sit at the center of business development, Tesla technology, and the deployment of stationary storage projects on the grid. As a member of our team, you will help to shape the success of our projects in various applications worldwide. You must have a genuine passion for engineering products that will fundamentally change the world’s energy infrastructure and must want to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Energy Engineering | Electrical Engineering
  • Tesla is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to perform electrical engineering activities for our Energy Products design team. This individual will collaborate with a cross functional team of engineers to deliver innovative, best in class products that support Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy
  • Energy | Industrial Electronics Design
  • The Industrial Energy team designs the eyes, ears, and brains of Tesla’s Energy Storage (Megapack) and Supercharging products. The system control boards manage the central processing, communications, high voltage safety, thermal systems, and system level components including breakers, contactors, and pyrofuses
  • Energy | Industrial Storage Service Engineering
  • The Tesla Energy Industrial Storage Service Engineering team is responsible for diagnosing and resolving product issues and escalations from Field Service teams to drive the best customer experience and fleet availability. In this internship you will identify and help resolve fleet-wide performance, operation, and maintenance challenges across the growing fleet of energy products by creating analytics that provide insights to drive action to maintain and improve the fleet
  • Energy | Manufacturing Engineering
  • Reporting to the Solar Roof Manufacturing Engineering Team, the Manufacturing Equipment Engineering Intern is primarily responsible for the design and deployment of Tesla energy product (including Tesla Solar Roof) factory lines – inclusive of design, commissioning, process development and technical transfer of the tools to the operation team; qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, throughput, uptime and yield (OEE).
  • Energy | Service Tooling Design
  • The Service Tooling Engineering team is responsible for the design to production of custom service and commissioning tooling hardware to assist in the rapid development and maintenance of Tesla’s Energy storage and charging solutions. This skilled and motivated individual will keep pushing this evolving energy industry forward by designing discharge equipment automation, battery charge equipment user interfacing, Low voltage communication protocols, communication equipment, circuits to ensure user safety, signal conditioning, and much more.
  • What You’ll Bring
    Currently working towards a BS, MS, or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program such as Electrical/Project Engineer, Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Equivalent
    Qualifications for the above teams will include one or more of the following skillsets:
  • Energy | Battery Energy Storage Project Engineer
    • Knowledge of Controls, Networking, SCADA are advantageous
    • Knowledge of relevant standards and electrical studies for utility applications are advantageous
    • Power Systems, Electronics & CAD Skills are preferred
    • Excellent communication and documentation skills
    • Knowledge of development of the electrical construction drawing set are advantageous
    • Experience in Renewables, PV, Battery storage, EPC, Generation system design, Microgrids
    Energy Engineering | Electrical Engineering
  • Out of classroom relevant project experience (Formula SAE, solar car, internships, etc.)
  • Familiarity with use of DSPs, microcontrollers, and programmable logic devices
  • Familiarity with digital communication busses (CAN, Ethernet, RS-485, USB, SPI, I2C, etc.)
  • Familiarity with analog sensors and signal conditioning circuits
  • Familiarity with board level power supplies (buck, boost, flyback, etc.)
  • Proficiency with basic EE tools (scopes, network analyzers, etc.)
  • amiliarity with wireless communication features (cellular, Wi-Fi)
  • Experience with PCB layout, plane definition, and EMC optimization
  • Embedded programming of DSPs, microcontrollers, and programmable logic devices
  • Experience working on high voltage, high power systems
  • Energy | Industrial Electronics Design
  • Experience using Altium, LTspice, Matlab, Python.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBAs.
  • Experience working with switching power supplies and LDOs, analog sense circuits, MCU and digital circuits, communications (CAN, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, RS485), and high voltage circuits.
  • Energy | Industrial Storage Service Engineering
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition, applied to firmware/software-enabled systems
  • Remain engaged, proactive, and positive while solving very challenging problems
  • Nice to have:
  • Experience with battery systems and power systems
  • Experience using Python or equivalent for data analysis on very large databases
  • Knowledge of CAN Bus communication
  • Experience with developing, managing or maintaining equipment running Linux based applications
  • Energy | Manufacturing Engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience, preferably with high-volume and pilot manufacturing.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software.
  • Understanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, data collection systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively achieve results with multiple vendors and internal and external customers.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis, statistics, SPC.
  • Excellent communicator, both in presentations and written reports.
  • Proven ability to work well with production personnel of all levels.
  • Experience programming PLCs, SCARA robots, and articulated robots a plus.
  • Energy | Service Tooling Design
  • Experience reading and creating electrical schematics. (Wiring and PCBA)
  • Experience designing and working with digital communication busses (CAN, Ethernet, RS-485, USB, SPI, I2C, etc.).
  • Understanding of key analog components such as MOSFETs, op-amps, switching regulators, gate drivers, etc.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment. (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, signal generators, etc)
  • Rapidly iterate circuit and wiring designs as architecture evolves.
  • Remain engaged, proactive, and positive while solving very challenging problems.
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with PCB layout, plane definition, and EMC optimization. (Altium preferred)
  • Understanding and experience of PID controllers.
  • Ability to write user ran python scripts.
  • Basic understanding of electro-mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Basic understanding of microcontrollers and Programmable logic devices.
  • Experience with battery technology.
  • Previous work in the solar, energy storage, electric vehicle, or electric vehicle charging industry.

    $20.00 - $60.00 + benefits
    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
