Job Description

The stated pay range is based on a national-average location. Actual salary is determined by factors including relevant work experience, skills and location. This position is bonus eligible.

CNO Financial Group’s HR team is hiring an Employee Relations Consultant to collaborate with HRBPs and partner with business leaders, leave management and employees to provide direction and consultation including conflict resolution, performance management, disciplinary action, reasonable accommodations, and policy interpretation and application. This position plays a key role in day-to-day risk mitigation, as well as uses data analytics to identify trends and recommend courses of action.

This is your opportunity to be a part of a proactive and innovative Employee Relations (ER) team and have impact across CNO business areas.

As an ER Consultant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting focus groups, climate assessment, etc. in support of the action plan
  • Supporting management at employee meetings as needed, including performance, attendance and conduct terminations
  • Investigating work-related or compliance issues and preparing summary reports, conclusions and recommendations for assigned client group
  • Working with appropriate partners to provide consultation and recommendations regarding all reasonable accommodation requests for the enterprise.
  • Partnering with management to handle performance counseling, attendance counseling, policy violation and conduct related cases, including disciplinary recommendations and associated documentation
  • Conducting exit interviews, summarize findings and discuss trends and concerns with senior management
  • Crafting and facilitating formal and informal training on employee relations matters such as performance counseling, case documentation, etc.


The
ER Consultant position is well-suited for you if you:

  • Are an innovative problem solver with the courage and sensitivity to deliver tough messages to leaders and employees and express your point of view, even to someone more senior than you
  • Are highly organized with the ability to work under stress, be responsive to time sensitive issues and demonstrate high integrity when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Have outstanding relationship-management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and partner well with others in order to build strong and trusting relationships
  • Can display a balanced, objective approach and good judgment when recommending a course of action or handling an investigation

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, Human Resource Management or related field, or 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Willingness to work central or eastern time zone business hours
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws (both State and Federal) and regulations (for example ADA, FLSA, FMLA, Title VII), as well as the ability to appropriately interpret and apply policies, laws and business practices when addressing employment matters.
  • At least 4 years of work experience in employee relations, including conducting ER investigations, partnering and coaching leaders on performance management, and analyzing trends in employment data and recommending solutions

  • Experience with Workday is a plus
