IFF is looking for a Safety (EH&S) Specialist to join our team that takes pride in its focus on sustainability - our products are predominantly sustainable- and other environmentally conscious efforts to lead by example at the IFF Jacksonville Florida site.
This IFF location manufactures ingredients that can be found in dozens of consumer products that people across the U.S. and around the world use every day.

It is surrounded by great school districts in Duval and St. Johns Counties and is near Fleming Island and Nocatee, FL.
In this role you will share responsibly for the overall implementation of site systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate EH&S standards with the EH&S Manager. The Safety Specialist works closely with all facility personnel to ensure excellent EH&S performance and full compliance with requirements. This position reports to the Site EH&S manager and offers many opportunities to grow professionally.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Key player in Jacksonville’s Sustainability Green team.
- Gather data and maintain systems to track necessary information for internal environmental, health, and safety reporting and to drive improvement in EH&S performance.
- Provide training and support as needed to all departments based on the annual EHS training program to implement the applicable IFF global regulatory policies.
- Organize, lead, and participate in activities that promote employee ownership and engagement in EH&S.
- Complete routine field line walks (observe and engage) to provide recognition, coaching, collaboration, and training.
- Develop and improve safety training to educate site personnel on EH&S-related issues. Ensure EH&S training is effective in sharing safety know-how needed to achieve world class safe operations.
- Manage site incident investigation system, ensuring proper classification, thorough root cause investigations and appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence are implemented.
- Implement case management, working closely with site leadership and site’s occupational health clinic to manage injuries to the lowest level possible. Ensure proper injury, illness classifications and OSHA record keeping is completed.
- Manage Jacksonville response teams which include Confined Space, HazMat, and Fire Brigade. Site contact with local Fire Department and coordinating tours as needed.
- Develop and implement improvements to safety systems to ensure compliance with requirements and continued improvement in EH&S performance. Manage EH&S projects as assigned.
- Manage site’s EH&S policies that define requirements to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate EH&S standards.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Manage site’s industrial hygiene program.
- Provide in-plant support to site leadership, operators, mechanics, contractors, and technical staff to ensure proper safety evaluation is performed and work is completed within requirements. Manage site’s Life Critical Permit Program.
- Coordinate annual medical exams, respirator evaluations, and respirator fit testing.
- Ensure that clear and effective emergency plans are in place in such a way that risks for people and IFF are minimized. Update and maintain site’s Emergency Response Plan.

- Computer and technical literacy; demonstrated skill in use of Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel).
- Bachelor’s degree with two or more years EH&S experience or High School Diploma or higher with 10 plus years relevant experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience implementing & maintaining site wide safety related programs.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to work effectively, professionally, and respectfully in a team-based environment to involve peers, customers, line management and technical competency experts.
- Demonstrated EHS functional/technical expertise with strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
Additional desirable (not required) - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Process Safety Management (PSM).
- Understanding of ISO14001.
