Job Description
Company Description: NAMI San Diego/Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses. Primary Responsibilities/Function: This position is responsible for conducting Education course in-person and online (virtual). The courses include the eight-class NAMI Family to Family course. This course is designed for Family Members/Direct Supporters of individuals 18+ who live with mental health challenges. The courses will also include the NAMI BASICS course, a six-class course designed for Family Members/Direct Caregivers of individuals under 18 who live with mental health challenges. This position may also conduct workshops, parent groups, and community feedback sessions for Family Members/Direct Caregivers of individuals under age 18 who live with mental health challenges. Responsibilities include outreach with recruitment activities, course preparation, data input, and co-teaching. Duties and Responsibilities: Co-teach NAMI signature programs in person and online (virtual). NAMI Family to Family Education - eight sessions NAMI Basics courses - six sessions Family Voice/Family Support Groups Assist with recruitment and outreach activities across San Diego County. Assist with documentation and input of evaluation data. Build solid cross-functional relationships. Provide logistical support. Mentor and motivate with strong training skills. Maintain a strong positive viewpoint towards mental health. Utilize planning, organizing, analyzing, problem solving, communication, time management and coordinating skills. Maintain excellent organization and attention to detail. Work with diverse populations plus the ability to work as part of a team. Keep agency and program information confidential and be discrete. Support NAMI San Diego/Imperial County Mission and Values. Other duties as assigned. Accountability: Reports to Program Manager. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of standing and walking. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Minimum Requirements, including linguistic and cultural skills, education, experiences, licenses and certifications: Bilingual and bicultural in Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, and/or Somali preferred Lived experience as a mental health family member/direct supporter of a loved one individual living with mental health challenges Certified NAMI Family to Family teacher preferred, but can train. Successful attendance and completion of the NAMI Family to Family Course Bachelor's Degree in relevant field preferred or clearly demonstrated equivalent work experience in the field a plus. Strong foundation in personal recovery Skilled in Training & Presentations in-person & online Knowledge of San Diego County's Adult Behavioral Health, social services and children centered resources. Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Advanced knowledge and skill in the use of computer software (Microsoft Office Access Database, PowerPoint, Word, Excel), email, web navigation, and the Zoom or Teams Platform. Excellent planning, organizing, analyzing, problem solving, communication, time management. coordinating skills, and detailed oriented. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations plus the ability and desire to work as part of a team. Ability to keep information confidential and be discrete with program participants. Able to work a Flexible schedule that may include weekdays, weekends, and evenings. Valid California Driver's License and comprehensive personal automobile insurance as required by law. Ability to travel to training locations outside of NAMI San Diego main office for scheduled trainings. Will not be debarred or excluded from participation in Federal programs by the General Services Administration and/or the Department of Health and Human Services of the Inspector General. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Must have a satisfactory driving record. Reliable and consistent attendance.
