Job Description
Reports to: Associate National Executive Director


Location: Los Angeles (The Los Angeles office works on a hybrid schedule of Tues - Thurs in-office and Mon and Fri, remote.)


About The Position


Serve as overall Editor of the Producers Guild’s quarterly print and digital magazine, There is an expectation to attend weekly all-staff meetings, board meetings and other important meetings attended by staff. This is an exempt position with a salary of $65,000. The position is non-exclusive.

Responsibilities


Meet all deadlines, specifically including the following:


  • Work with MTM Account Manager regarding flatplan, created based on editorial planning call and based on number of ads sold from previous year’s edition (just a launch point; constant movement on ads up until the very end).
  • Connect MTM with sources or representatives to schedule the cover feature photo shoot (sometimes there is a second photo shoot scheduled for another main feature).
  • Archive in Sharepoint and Wrap-up
  • Disseminate legal releases and related information for the magazine..
  • Request high resolution and approved images from sources (supplied images).
  • Create all writing assignments, conduct interviews, if appropriate, collect/select on the scene images, write your own pieces. Set deadline for writers and make any necessary edits/rewrites.
  • Identify and source the content for the Project. Participate in editorial planning calls (share topics in initial outline form, review production schedule/process, discuss artwork (custom vs. supplied vs. illo)).
  • Obtain final internal approval on full PDF of the magazine.
  • Load copy files and supplied images into Box folder (setupbyMTM) by the “editorial complete” deadline on the production schedule. Include headlines and sub-headlines for each piece, pull quotes, bylines, cover cut lines. As MTM works on layout, work with MTM to make additional edits, add captions, provide missing information.
  • Submit copy in Word doc form to MTM Copyeditor, and work with Copyeditor to review and make additional edits.
  • Serve as overall Editor of Produced By magazine. Work with Guild leadership to approve subjects/outline, manage freelance writers (the approximate freelance budget is $3,000 per issue) and an internal editorial schedule, run list and budget, secure supplied images from various sources, as applicable; and work with the Moontide Media Team (“MTM”) (i.e., AccountManager, Art Director, Copyeditor) on a production schedule set by MTM to finalize content for print.
  • Obtain all necessary internal and/or source approvals (as required).


Qualifications / Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Guild staff uses the following tools, amongst others: MS Office suite, One Drive, Sharepoint, Zoom Meeting, Zoom Webinar, Google suite. You must be comfortable learning Nimble/Salesforce (our association software database).
  • Cloud computing, and cloud storage – and best practices of both.
  • Highly skilled writer and editor with a proven track record.
  • Previous experience as an Editor of a media-focussed publication (print or digital) aimed at industry professionals or members of a trade association or guild/union.
  • Working understanding of the meaning and functions of different producing credits across film, television and emerging media.
  • Excellent time management skills.
