SHE Media is looking for an experienced editor to join our team in New York, overseeing all health and wellness coverage on SheKnows.com. This person will be responsible for writing and editing trending news, original features, service pieces, and personal essays on topics ranging from mental, reproductive, and children’s health to sex, fitness, and nutrition.

This role requires a self-starter who can read and understand the latest medical study, interview a doctor on the signs of cervical cancer, and write a quick turnaround piece on why a celebrity talking about mental health matters. The ideal candidate should have a roster of connections in the health and wellness space, experience supervising freelance writers, superb organizational and communication skills, and a passion for creating original, engaging content that resonates with our audience of moms and women in general.

The Work

• Help drive the larger vision for the Health vertical and develop a strong voice and identity for the brand
• Work with branded content team on producing aligned editorial on sold campaigns
• Write or assign and edit approximately 6-8 stories a day (a mix of scheduled features, refreshes, and timely news posts)
• Manage a part-time freelance health news writer
• Collaborate with art/design, social, video, and other departments
• Assist in creating shopping content in the health vertical
• Own all aspects of SheKnows Health, including children’s health, maternal health, mental health, nutrition & fitness, and relationships
• Monitor traffic and strategize/pivot accordingly to meet aggressive performance goals
• Manage the Health features calendar, budget, and daily workflow
• Attend events and conduct in-person interviews on behalf of SheKnows
• Interview medical professionals, experts, occasional celebrities, health influencers, patients, survivors, etc.

The Fine Print

• A deep understanding of digital strategy, analytics and SEO
• Experience with developing the skills of contributors, including freelance writers and junior staff editors
• Min. 3-5 years’ experience producing high-performing, high-quality health & wellness content at a major publication
• The ability to quickly react to/cover trending news and a talent for developing unique story angles and headlines that are clicky, engaging, and tailored to our audience
• A network of exceptional writers and a strong roster of industry contacts

An ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced conditions, and work both independently and collaboratively

Typical wage range: $75k - $80k

Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. PMC is committed to the health and wellness of our employees. As part of our company-wide rollout of PMC’s paid healthcare plan, for this role the company pays 100% of the monthly health, dental and vision plan premiums for the employee and their family.
