Job Description

Flexible work arrangement is anticipated for this position, which may include on-site work on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD


TASKS

(1) Support the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Director, ensuring that short and long-term goals are consistently incorporated in the mission of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI)

(2) Work with NHGRI staff to develop implementation strategies, programs and grants that align with the strategic plan for increasing the diversity of the scientific workforce and promoting health equity.

(3) Strengthen and build relationships between the Office of the Director, NHGRI, colleges and universities, professional societies and the community that solidifies a network designed for long-term success and improved communication leading to diverse representation in the scientific workforce and health equity programs.

(4) Collaborate with intramural and extramural programs to develop strategies to synergize efforts that will benefit both independently and collectively toward the institute’s mission

(5) Work with Office of the Director staff members to develop a taxonomy for portfolio assignments; coordinate assignment of awards with Program Directors based on subject matter, collect and track financial information on Office of the Director funded programs and grants, and perform portfolio analysis to facilitate identification of scientific interest. Create and track measurable outcome for success of the Office of the Director on a periodic basis and develop improvements to ensure portfolio growth amongst a diverse applicant pool.

(6) Organize regular staff meetings; ensure effective communication for remote and virtual attendees as well as partners; develop meeting agenda items; take notes; track action items; and maintain a library of relevant documents.

(7) Prepare scientific, progress, presentations, and budget tracking reports; assemble data and perform analysis including scientific and program related information searches and develop summaries that synthesize the information.

(8) Create, edit, and prepare documents, outlines, questionnaires and presentations to organize and implement activities, interviews, meetings, templates and discussions for short and long-term goals.

(9) Organize and chair taskforce and working groups across the NHGRI and NIH with the goal of promoting equity and diversity through collaboration; lead meetings and discussions; organize and track progress of working group activities; develop and implement approaches for improved communication

(10) Generate processes for the development of initiatives work with extramural streams to develop proposals aligned with policies of equity and diversity; track relationship between initiative ideas and NHGRI Strategic Plan goals to identify gaps and areas of overlap for continued improvement

(11) Liaison with communications and web-team to create resources for internal and external stakeholders to be educated about the office and funding opportunities.


REQUIREMENTS

(1) Master’s degree in Social Science, Public Health, Business Administration, Life Sciences, or a related discipline; Two (2) years of specialized experience plus a bachelor’s degree is equivalent

(2) Knowledge of NIH grants and funding mechanisms as well as other research agreements

(3) Project management experience that includes meeting coordination, scientific writing, generating project summaries, reports, and presentations

(4) Experience/exposure to research, policies, or programs related to diversity, workforce development, and/or health equity is a plus
