What You Will Do


We are currently searching for a Health Science Policy Analyst to support the National Library of Medicine (NLM) Assistant Director for Policy Development in policy analysis, monitoring, and response. Qualified candidates would have expertise in policy development related to broad domains relevant to NLM programs and activities, such as clinical data; genomic data sharing; scholarly communications and publishing; and public access policy development and implementation. Responsibilities include contributing to development and implementation of policies central to NLM's mission; identifying or advancing policy needs; and advising on science policy issues, as appropriate. Additional responsibilities include supporting stakeholder coordination, commenting on policy documents, and preparing written materials. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.


  • Prepare briefings, summaries, talking points and background documents; assemble briefing books.
  • Provide technical advice to staff regarding new policies and procedures.
  • Compile and analyze policy and related information.
  • Initiate, develop and implement new policies that support organizational goals.
  • Research and summarize background materials as needed by locating scientific or other policy related information on the internet and other means, including literature and database searches.
  • Compile, analyze and organize scientific, policy and related information.
  • Attend meetings; provide minutes and reports. Review and implement discussion items.
  • Prepare background information, options and recommendations that are used to brief upper management.
  • Prepare background materials and provide context on a range of policy and program issues for use by upper management.
  • Prepare reports for upper management regarding status of current policy initiatives.
  • Attend meetings; provide minutes and reports. Review and implement discussion items.
  • Interpret, analyze and condense material from a variety of sources for presentation.
  • Prepare background materials and provide context on a range of policy and program issues for use by upper management.
  • Participate in planning sessions; contribute expertise in discussions of current and new policy initiatives.
  • Interpret, analyze and condense material from a variety of sources for presentation.
  • Prepare reports for upper management regarding status of current policy initiatives.

What You Will Need


  • At least 5 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
