Job Description

Lumina Corps is seeking a health and science writer to support high-profile federal government clients with health and science writing. Ideal candidates will have experience working with federal government clients and generating deliverables such as content to inform and educate, blog posts, meeting summaries, and/or reports. This position requires understanding of public health and biomedical science concepts and an ability to translate them for scientific, policy, and lay public audiences. Health and science writers must be detail-oriented and have excellent oral and written communication skills. A research background in public health, cancer, genetics, or epidemiology is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop content and blog posts on health- and science-related topics for federal agency websites.
  • Attend NIH, FDA, and other scientific conferences, workshops, and/or working group meetings; take notes; prepare meeting minutes and summaries.
  • Work as part of a team of health and science writers, communications specialists, project managers, and other staff to deliver written deliverables that contribute to the advancement of scientific progress at our clients’ agencies.


Qualifications

  • Experience notetaking and writing summary minutes of both virtual and in-person scientific meetings
  • MS or PhD in public health, biomedical sciences, or related scientific discipline preferred
  • Positive, solutions-oriented, customer service mindset, flexibility to take on large or small tasks as needs arise in a fast-paced environment
  • Organization skills, and readiness to take initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills, with an ability to quickly discern issues and troubleshoot during live events
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and be organized when contributing to several projects at once
  • Keen attention to detail and expertise in managing timelines
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience writing in the context of federal public health or science programs
  • Experience with web-based meeting platforms
  • Experience adapting health and science concepts for public audiences
